Australian Republic Poll after QE2 ? Are Chuck and Camilla to rule

More than a century after Federation will the new multi cultural Australia want Queen Camilla and Charles the. third ?

While some of German descent have been welcomed these are not Panama paupers who will till the vineyards of the Barossa under God's tanning lamp.

What does it cost per year for AUS to subscribe to Lizzy ?

If it's cheaper than a president, then you could keep her.

    Monarchy is weird though

It's weird helge. Most aussies don't have a strong opinion either way- but of course, a minority do. The Referendum held in 1999 was soundly defeated, not really because most aussies felt strongly about retaining the Monarchy, but because most aussies saw it as another power grab by venal Politicians (who understandably do not enjoy a high status or reputation in this nation).

The scumbag pollies want the sole power to appoint the replacement Head of State you see- but if a Referendum is to succeed in the foreseeable future, the Head of state would need to be elected by the People. That is the stand-off. It's not like the current system is in urgent need of replacement. It works.

    I understand

Your president would however be limited to opening of new museums etc or welcoming head of states from minor nations in the airport.

    A redundant position really

    As the monarchy

Yeh, basically- but there is also the issue of our Legal system, under the Westminster system- not controlled by partisan aussie politicians. We don't want dodgy politicians in charge of that, and we would prefer someone elected by us to open our Museums- rather than some partisan political hack being rewarded for his/her years of dodgy service by the government of the day.

Are politicians are among the best paid in the world you know- and for what? They certainly know how to feather their own nest.

Depends on a belief in God.
