Oh dear, seems like Thailand should institute some kind of mental health check on chinky tourists before they let them in. It would be a prudent public safety measure.

What happened: On Monday, a 25-year-old man surnamed surnamed Wu entered a kindergarten in Lianjiang county at about 7:40 a.m. local time as children were being dropped off for summer classes. Wu, who lives in the same county, went on a stabbing spree, killing at least three children, two parents and one teacher.

A graphic video circulating online shows bodies on the ground outside the school and police officers and ambulances surrounding the site.
Arrest and investigation: Wu was arrested at around 8 a.m. local time, and an investigation is currently underway. While his motive is currently unknown, police deemed the attack as “an intentional assault.”

Mass knife attacks: There has been a string of knife attacks in China over the past few years, raising nationwide concern about the safety of children at school.
In August 2022, three people were killed and six others were injured in a stabbing spree at a kindergarten in Jiangxi province. In April 2021, two children were killed and 16 others were wounded in another knife attack in southern China. Back in 2020, a school security guard wielding a knife wounded 37 students and two adults at an elementary school in southern China.

Calls for action: While China prohibits private gun ownership, most mass attacks in the country are carried out with knives, homemade explosives or gasoline bombs. The attacks in schools have prompted calls for research into the root causes of the attacks and have led authorities to step up security.

Experts point to the COVID-19 pandemic as a factor behind the increase in mental health issues in China. The perpetrators are often in deep grievances with feelings of anger, resentment and loss and are looking to exact revenge on society.

Thai Government Says First Phase of Thailand to China High-speed Rail to be Completed in 2026

By Adam Judd -Sunday, 11 June 2023, 13:03

"The government has reported that the first phase of the high-speed railway is scheduled to be completed by 2026. The first phase is part of the railway project that will connect Bangkok to the city of Kunming in China

Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri has disclosed details on the high-speed railway construction that will help boost the Thai economy and tourism industry.

According to the spokesperson, the first phase of the railway will have six stops from Bangkok, Bangsue Grand Station, Don Muang, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, and Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The 251-kilometer railway project includes 15 construction contracts, with one for system construction and the other fourteen for civil engineering work. Currently, one contract has been completed, ten are underway, and three are still awaiting authorization.

World's first liquid oxygen, methane carrier rocket sent into orbit in latest achievement by Chinese private space sector

By Chu Daye in Jiuquan and Zhang Hongpei in Beijing

    Published: Jul 12, 2023 09:36 AM

"The world's first liquid oxygen, liquid methane carrier rocket blasted off on Wednesday morning from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China's Gansu Province, taking a sample payload into orbit.

Developed by LandSpace, a Chinese privately owned aerospace company, the launch of the ZQ-2 Y2, as it is code-named, marked a breakthrough in the quest to find a new-type low-cost liquid propellant for carrier rockets in China.

The ZQ-2 Y2, the largest and most powerful private rocket in China, completed its flight procedures and accomplished its mission, according to LandSpace. It was the rocket's second flight.

The whole flight took 750 seconds. At 765 seconds, loud applause was heard inside the central control room as the payload successfully entered its designated orbit, the Global Times learned. Rocket scientists were hugging and congratulating each other, and many investors were seen crying with joy.

"Seeing the rocket liftoff on site is quite thrilling, and I plan to put more money into this field," a representative of an investment company told the Global Times on condition of anonymity.

The ZQ-2 rocket is capable of placing a 1.5-ton payload into a typical sun-synchronous orbit at about 500 kilometers above the Earth. Future models could ultimately increase the payload to four tons, according to the company.

The rocket's engine uses a propellant made of liquid oxygen and liquid methane, and it is more environmentally friendly, reducing the required cleaning time from days to hours - a feature vital to much-coveted reusable rocket technology and low-cost launches, according to industry experts.

"The success of the ZQ-2 carrier rocket today has put China in the leading ranks of the global space race for methane-based rockets," Zhang Changwu, founder and CEO of LandSpace, told a press conference following the launch.

Zhang said through upgrades and mass launch capability, it is expected to translate to a 30 percent cost advantage for the ZQ-2 compared with alternatives on the market. "I believe currently, if we can keep the cost of a single rocket under 100 million yuan ($13.91 million), then it is quite competitive," Zhang said.

"Through further optimization, our per kilogram cost will be no higher than that of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket," Zhang said, noting that the ZQ-2 Y3 scheduled for launch in the remaining months of 2023 would carry multiple satellites so as to test the ability of the rocket to send payloads into orbit with precision.

The domestically developed ZQ-2 Y2 is a two-stage rocket with a diameter of 3.35 meters and a total length of 49.5 meters. The rocket has a launch weight of 219 tons and takeoff thrust of 268 tons.

It is powered by six liquid-propellant engines, of which five use 80 tons of liquid oxygen and liquid methane as propellant, making them the largest in Asia.

The successful test flight validated the systems of the ZQ-2, and laid a solid foundation for the next-stage research and development of reusable rockets, the company said.

The successful test has brought the start-up's official commercial rocket launch plan closer to fruition. The company said the ZQ-2 will soon start mass launch programs, and it will continue to upgrade its products and services centered around the ZQ-2 carrier rocket, with the aim of providing a low-cost, high-performance and heavy-duty carrier rocket solution.

The company is preparing for a third launch of the ZQ-2, Zhang Changwu said.

Wednesday's launch was the second for the ZQ-2. In December 2022, the rocket failed its maiden test flight when an abnormality occurred in the second stage of the rocket.

"If we can obtain success of the ZQ-2 model within the year, we will start to deliver a small number for the market from 2024, like three or four launches, and double the number in the year after… if we maintain this growth pace, I think we will be the first private rocket company in the country to 'achieve one from zero'," Zhang said.

Based on the "one" that has materialized, the CEO said it will act like "a shot in the arm" for the firm to accelerate R&D on other projects. For example, LandSpace is kicking off a reusable rocket project. "Our plan is to achieve launch in 2025."

The Chinese government has been encouraging private capital to take part in the aerospace sector. LandSpace, one of the pioneers, is sometimes compared to US-based SpaceX.

China's domestic commercial space sector is in an era of rapid development, and the threshold remains high for a private rocket company, as it is demanding to create a comprehensive self-developed value chain from design, manufacturing and testing to the final launch, industry observers said.

In April, SpaceX's Starship, which is propelled by a liquid oxygen, liquid methane-fueled engine, exploded during its first attempted orbital test flight after nearly four minutes of launch.

The whole R&D of the ZQ-2 took the company five years and cost nearly 600 million yuan, according to the company."

Fantastic, methane is one of the worst greenhouse gases out there.

    Stupid chinkies.

Due to its structure, methane traps more heat in the atmosphere per molecule than carbon dioxide (CO2), making it 80 times more harmful than CO2 for 20 years after it is released.

Cambodia's election results expected to further bolster domestic stability and enhance China-Cambodian relations

    By Wan Hengyi

    Published: Jul 23, 2023 08:45 PM

"The election result in Cambodia is expected to lay a solid foundation for the stability and further development of future China-Cambodia relations. Both sides will continue to uphold the unbreakable friendship forged by generations of leaders from both countries and support each other in areas such as investment cooperation and regional affairs, analysts noted.

The party of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen declared victory in a general election on Sunday. "We've won in a landslide… but we can't calculate the number of seats yet," said Sok Eysan, spokesperson for the Cambodian People's Party (CPP,) Reuters reported.

Hun Sen will extend his nearly 40-year reign as prime minister and pave the way for a power transfer to his eldest son, Hun Manet, read media reports, noting that the 45-year-old Hun Manet left his post as commander of the army to run for a seat in the National Assembly, and that Hun Sen surprised many by announcing on Thursday that the transfer could come as soon as next month.

It appears that Hun Sen continues to play a crucial and significant role in maintaining political stability and social order in Cambodia. As a result, despite Western countries' involvement in Cambodia's domestic affairs, their impact is likely to be limited, Zhuang Guotu, head of Xiamen University's Southeast Asian Studies Center, told the Global Times on Sunday.

The election result implies that Cambodia is likely to continue and further develop its friendship with China in the coming period, which is also the desired outcome for the Chinese side, Zhuang noted.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday exchanged congratulatory messages with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

The close ties between China and Cambodia are rooted in their highly aligned national interests, where maintaining a friendly relationship serves both sides' common interests. China has made substantial investments in Cambodia, playing a significant role in the country's infrastructure development, industries and exports, experts said.

Chinese investment accounted for 90.5 percent of the foreign direct investment (FDI) to Cambodia in 2022, and 73.5 percent in the first four months this year, said Chea Vuthy, deputy secretary-general of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

"China has always been the largest source of FDI to Cambodia," he said. "FDI, especially from China, has played an important role in developing the national economy and improving the livelihoods of the Cambodian people."

Vuthy said that investment from China has injected new capital to Cambodia, brought about new technologies, created jobs, increased production and exports, and helped boost the kingdom's integration into regional and global value chains.

Neak Chandarith, director of the Cambodia 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Research Center, said Chinese-funded enterprises were pivotal in boosting Cambodia's economic recovery in the post-pandemic era.

In fact, besides the economic sphere, China and Cambodia also maintain close cooperation in regional affairs. Cambodia, in particular, plays a crucial role in advancing China's relations with ASEAN, which is of significant importance to China in sustaining close cooperation with Cambodia and other ASEAN member countries, Zhuang noted.

From this perspective, any efforts made by China to maintain and strengthen its relationship with Cambodia are not excessive. The incoming Cambodian government is expected to further solidify the friendship and trust between both the two nations, analysts remarked."

I wonder if this sleazebag will get reported in the chinkystan media (rhetorical question)? He should have served more than 12 months.
Well done the Beeb for catching him.

A Malawian court has convicted a Chinese national on multiple charges including trafficking and procuring children to take part in entertainment.

Lu Ke, also known as Susu, has been handed a 12-month prison sentence, which he has already served in police custody.

He has been ordered to leave the country within seven days and is barred from ever returning.

He was arrested last year following a BBC Africa Eye investigative report.

The report showed him filming Malawian children making personalised greeting videos, some of which included racist content.

The videos were being bought for up to $70 (£55) on Chinese social media and internet platforms.

When news of his offensive videos broke, he fled to neighbouring Zambia as Malawian authorities issued a warrant of arrest against him.

He was arrested and convicted of entering the country illegally and was then extradited to Malawi.

He was denied bail and has been in police custody until his sentencing on Thursday.

He faced 14 charges against him, including procurement of children for use of entertainment, child trafficking, illegal use of the internet and harmful social practices.

Lu Ke denied making derogatory videos.

In his defence, the court was told he had already paid 16m Malawian kwacha ($16,000; £12,500) to the government to compensate his victims and for social responsibility activities in the community.

He said he had made his videos in order to spread Chinese culture to the local community.

Chinese zoo denies its bears are humans in costume

A zoo in China has denied suggestions some of its bears might be people in costumes after photos of the animals standing like humans circulated online.

Hangzhou Zoo said on social media that the sun bears from Malaysia are smaller than other bears and look different, but insisted they were the real thing.

"Some people think I stand like a person," the post written from the bear's point of view said.

"It seems you don't understand me very well."

An employee who answered the phone at the zoo declined to talk about the bears but said visits were being arranged on Monday for reporters to see them.
