Serious question for you hoho. Do you really believe Russia could beat NATO in a war? Nuclear threats can be made from NATO as well, and does anybody win that kind of war? Putin is the one with the itchy trigger finger. Do you not find his threats to be unnecessary and dangerous?
I tend to think of Sabang as being duplicitous rather than sweet...but there you go.
You know what Quora is willy (congrats!)- I get a lot of interesting info from it actually, I spend more time on it than TD these days.Quote:
Quora is a news source now?
P.S- this is not a News thread
PS it's a speakers corner thread, dickhead.
Tis indeed. A place for TD folks to post their opinions. Like assholes, everyone has an opinion.
Fact, Russia has invaded the Ukraine and people are being killed. Like the entire world, here inside the doors of teak, opinion are split on whether the invasion is a good or bad thing.
What aboutisms aside, do those here who obviously support the invasion believe it is ok for a nation, any nation, to invade another? A simple yes or no will be appreciated. ;)
Que whataboutisms and denials from the usual suspects!
^^ Well no (to pickle), but it is naive to assume that "100%" of Ukrainians are opposed to Russia's move- considering that 17% of the Ukrainian population describes itself as ethnically Russian. Several others may be opposed to UKR joining Nato for political reasons. There were even some Brits that sided with Mr Hitler you know. Some Americans fought for Hitlers army too.

Oh, and if I failed to notice Canada was in Nato, perhaps it's because it was one of those 'johny come latelies' that jumped on the bandwagon. :chitown:
Yeah, that's all well and good.
In a fair fight we could kick the shit out of Russia.
But that insane meglomaniac has his finger on the nuke trigger and was quick to mention it when things weren't going his way.
Don't get me wrong, I would love that column to be lit up.
It's just a shame so many lives would be lost because of that monster.
The fooker needs to be taken out soon by his own.
Fwiw I do not support the invasion, but why repeat myself (yawn). I was not opposed to Russia recognising the Donbass republics, or protecting them in a military sense- to me that is just a pragmatic recognition of the facts on the ground, post-Maidan. Neither was I opposed to the Crimean referendum and reunification with Russia- to me, just plain common sense. On the Diplomatic front, I have made my thoughts quite clear- but ex Ambassador Jack Matlock says it much better than and authoritively than I ever could. So, quote him yet again right- na just kidding. :)
But ruing lost or missed opportunities changes nothing now- it's War. This war is a tragedy, and will cost us all.
Latest sab note of caution- these sanctions. Lets not get too carried away, and cut off our nose just to spite our face.
I don't think that there is anyone who thinks that this or any other invasion is "a good thing " What some of us think is that there are reasons about it other than the stated propaganda generated by both sides.
Any such simple Yes or NO answer was no choice but to be wrong because There is no simple answer to a complex question.
Does any person have the right to attack another Person? "a simple Yes or No answered would be appreciated "
Russia has been losing the war without question, and there is a massive bit of evidence to back that up. They attempted a quick strike blitzkrieg that stalled, they dropped airborne units into Kyiv in an attempt to decapitate the Ukrainian government and were completely wiped out. The huge convoy that is currently bogged down was not intentional, it is due to poor logistical planning as the vehicles had to stop due to running out of fuel. Video evidence time and time again shows that most of the Russian soldiers taken prisoner are still in their teens, lack the will to fight, and have no idea why they are there. On and on I could go.
That said, the more salient question is will Russia lose this war? If there is a twinkle of a possibility, do I wish it? Of course, I do. But I am not holding my breath.
Here is what is going to happen next IMHO. Russian military doctrine is unchanged for decades. I thought maybe they would have changed their ways, but this war has proven that not to be the case. This huge, lumbering convoy that is slowly grinding to Kyiv will eventually get there, and the Ukrainians appear to have retreated into the cities intent to defend from within, which is why the convoy has not been attacked. The Russians intend to encircle Kyiv and use artillery to turn the city into glass. It is what they did to Grozny during the Chechen wars. The next couple of days could be hideous, I am sad to say.
The Russians are already raining fire on Kharkiv and have been attacking civilian targets on a large scale, including flattening a hospital.
Yes it is. These next couple of days are going to be sad.
Agreed.
You used to be a well reasoned poster about 12 years ago. Sometime ago, you lost the plot and became one of the lemmings. You bleated on for a month about how Russia would never invade, and the US was lying etc etc. You were utterly trounced. So the irony in your comments is duly noted.
Always is. Always some very good reasons for those who strive to gain power at the expense of others. That pesky Treaty of Versailles being but one of many.
Another which ended in my good self seeing first hand the devastation war brings. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident occurred in August 1964. North Vietnamese warships purportedly attacked United States warships, the U.S.S. Maddox and the U.S.S. C. Turner Joy.
Ok, nuff from me. I, after having seen exactly what war brings have become totally an anti-war guy. Please carry on from the comfort of your living rooms to voice your opinions.
I have decided not to bother repeating myself ad nauseum snubs- so think, or post, whatever floats your little boat. Repetitively. You have every bit as much right as any other poster to post what you want, within Forum guidelines obviously. You even have a right to be wrong. :)
Oops. ^^Maybe in the wrong thread. :ourrules:
I can only imagine the horrors of war having never lived through one, but like you I am strongly against it. It is an IMO outdated barbaric concept for conflict resolution, but there are those who don't think so and as long as they exist so would war. Personally I don't see how we could possible survive as a species. I am reading the Monroe doctrine fictional Book right now, It is not very good, with a lot of what I consider military battle porn , but it was free to me on Kindle unlimited, ,it helps pas the time and I learn a couple of things on the way. The use of limited AI in the control of weapons systems will and is become widespread, the other side has no option to either engage AI, improve it more than the other side themselves of be concurred. It will create an AI arms race, Ither way not a great outcome for humanity.
What IMO is taking place now with Russia is very similar to what took place between the Japanese and Americans in WW2, where Japan was forced in the war by restrictions imposed on her, I wont expand on that, there is a large body of literature written in the Subject.
IMO Russia need's to be contained with out threatening it territorial integrity. NATO in it's doorsteps threatens it's territorial integrity and Russia would fight back as best as it can, and with the tool it has in her toolbox.
Don't think the west does not know that, which begs the question
"what is their end game"? IM it's regime change in Russia, not a bad thing given what we know about Putin, but at what cost?
Boredom willy. If I make a point that is misinterpreted, or some people just plain get wrong (maybe 'cus I'm posting dwunk), I will reinforce or restate it more clearly. But that's all- "The moving pen having writ....".
