OTTAWA: The Canadian government granted honorary Canadian citizenship to Burmese democracy advocate Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday.
The move came in response to Myanmar's recent bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protesters.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Nobel laureate Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest for almost 12 of the past 18 years, is the living embodiment of the long struggle for democracy in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.
