Can one of the learned Americans that post here please answer the following question/s for me?
Given Biden's age what happens if he dies say in 2 years time?
I realise that Kamala Harris would take over the role of President but does she get to serve as President for the whole remainder of Biden's term or is an election held ASAP after he died?
Would that mean she would then become the first female President or is she not actually deemed to be President?
What ever happened to Condoleezza Rice?
Lots of respect for her.
Any role for her in a Biden led government?
... opps
Carry on!
Almost 20 billion dollars have been spent on this election . . . close to twice as much as last time.
Disgusting, really
Question re: Kamala Harris. I've read from comments that she can't be a presidential candidate because her parents weren't US citizens when she was born. How true? What does the constitution say?
I know that one has to be born in the US (or US territory) to be president - so that eliminates Arnold S.
Thanks!
Thanks for the answers!
Edit: I like Ms Harris as VP choice - a woman, a person of color, and seems to be an intelligent & competent individual (though I don't know much of her politics).
And there is the root of the problem. Aside from the fact that politicians have to play ball with "the money" to stay in power, they spend most of their time in office raising money for their re-election and their party.
IMO , unless there is reform on the length of campaigns, how these campaigns are financed, and term limits, none of the problems we see in American politics will ever be resolved.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
^ ? Her husband’s surname is Emhoff, so I think that does make her a Ms. Harris. She would be a Mrs. Emhoff.
More here, very interesting how Laura Ingram has changed her tune.Rupert Murdoch-owned US outlets turn on Trump, urging him to act with 'grace'
Fox News, Wall Street Journal and New York Post all show stark change of tone as their former champion faces ‘presidential endgame’
Multiple Rupert Murdoch-owned conservative media outlets in the United States have shifted their messaging in a seeming effort to warn readers and viewers that Donald Trump may well have lost the presidential election.
The new messaging appears to be closely coordinated, and it includes an appeal to Trump to preserve his “legacy” by showing grace in defeat. The message is being carried on Fox News and in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post – all outlets avidly consumed by Trump himself, especially Fox.
Donald Trump's malignant spell could soon be broken
One Fox News host, Laura Ingraham, an intimate of the president ever since she spoke at the 2016 Republican national convention, made an astounding statement that seemed directed at Trump personally, advising him to accept defeat “if and when that does happen” with “grace and composure” and appealing to his sense of his own legacy.
Ingraham said in part: “If and when it’s time to accept an unfavourable outcome in this election, and we hope it never comes, but if and when that does happen, president Trump needs to do it with the same grace and composure he demonstrated at that town hall with Savannah Guthrie. So many people remarked about his tone and presence. Exactly what he needs.
“Now losing, especially when you believe the process wasn’t fair, it’s a gut punch. And I’m not conceding anything tonight, by the way. But losing, if that’s what happens – it’s awful. But president Trump’s legacy will only become more significant if he focuses on moving the country forward.”

Couldn’t find a better place to put this funny Facebook post by the Bangor Police Department. If you don’t already know, Maine is on the Canadian-US border and one can drive across.

The Bangor Police Department, with full support of our brothers and sisters at the Bangor Fire Department, urge everyone to remain calm regardless of the outcome of the election.
Utilization of celebratory fire, or, in other cases, unhappy fires, fireworks, firearms, fire ants, fire dances, and fifths of Fireball are frowned upon by those who are currently working in the field of public safety.
Winning and losing are simple concepts; although it does seem like a refresher might be in order.
If you have determined that moving to Canada is your primary goal if the other candidate wins, it should be noted that we would rather you choose another route to gain access to that wonderful country.
It's kind of icy here right now.
Might we first suggest using a boat or aircraft to gain access to the land of the majestic— poutine-fattened— beaver.
Maine has many readily available access points to the land of the maple leaf, but we don't want to see you right now because we are still washing the sheets from when you visited last summer. We will call when it is time to visit again. Please choose other routes to escape the results of the national election, whatever that result might be.
You should also keep in mind that the Canadians did not really invite you to come over anyway.
While the border is closed due to the pandemic, we also want to warn you that the kind Canadians that you always read and hear about do not work at the border crossings. The ladies and gents who are armed and slightly truculent seem to have a little bit of badger in them. Please do not try their patience. Go back to your homes and reassess your travel plans.
If you feel you must move to Canada, we urge you to use other border access points. Please call ahead for reservations. Use an inside voice during phone conversations, make sure you have your passport in hand, and don't bring mace, pepper spray, firearms, weapons, excessive amounts of alcohol, or your poor attitude with you; they just won't put up with your nonsense.
If other border states are utilized to make your leisurely drive to the border, please obey all applicable laws, and try not to be a bother.
May the best candidate for the future of America be selected. We will continue to enforce state laws while tainted with no malice or favor given based on the candidate you choose.
We will be here, one way or another. Like Blondie, with a cop-stash.
Keep your hands to yourself, leave other people's things alone, and be kind to one another...especially over the coming weeks.
