IMO, the USA is on the road to becoming a failed state for many reasons.

I doubt the US will fail now. There have been plenty of other times when things looked grim. During the civil rights movement in the sixties when rioting was common comes to mind.

The thing that will bring the US to its knees is pollution, not the pollution you can see but the hidden pollution of billions of gallons of toxic waste pumped under pressure into wells deep underground some of which is already leaking to the surface and into aquifers used for drinking water.

A fair bit of that toxic waste comes from Fracking with some of the chemical soup they like to call brine remaining underground replacing the oil and gas which has been forced out and the remainder which comes out with the oil disposed of in the deep wells. There is also toxic industrial waste some contaminated with radiation.
