Reading here that the Government has agreed to do everything in its power to bring Thomas Cook customers home. So that's 3 years they'll be stuck in Europe then.

Boris Johnson will be dismissed by Queen if he tries to ignore court order to implement Benn Act, says Dominic Grieve. Grieve, one of the 21 Tories who had the whip removed after rebelling over Brexit and one of the MPs involved in drafting the Benn Act to rule out a no-deal Brexit on 31 October, has said he thinks the legislation is robust, and that ministers will not find loopholes in it.


In an interview with Sky News, Grieve said that if Boris Johnson tried to ignore the law, the courts could force him to comply.


"[Johnson] would be taken to court and a writ of mandamus would be issued against him and he would be told, as a matter of law, that he has to write the letter [to the EU requesting a Brexit delay]. The case could go to the supreme court and I suspect the courts could deal with it very quickly."


Grieve also said that, if Johnson tried to ignore the courts ultimately he could be dismissed as prime minister by the Queen

Delighted to announce that absolutely no flights are suspended today! We've put about 150 in prorogation, but obviously that's an entirely separate thing so doesn't count.

How on earth Boris Johnson got Royal assent so quickly for a Government shutdown is beyond me.

And yet it seems the Queen will not be giving Bercow his P45.

and we all know that the Chavs and MPs hate the Germans and the French more than anything, and was one of the motivation for the Euro-skeptics to exist and for Brexit to happen

The Irish are to lose several billion euros in this mess but the catalyst for war will be the re-imposition of Westminster rule favouring the DUP and the unilateral ending of the GFA.

Things are truly shaping up nicely. Civil war in NI and Scottish independence.

The Tories are certainly going to reap the whirlwind.

Johnson will be a target for the rest of his miserable life.

Boris is not going survive this either way,

if he doesn't ask for an extension, he goes to jail

if he does ask for an extension, the next step is REVOKE and Brexit is GAME OVER and he is gone for good in the next GE

Boris Johnson will set out details of his "final" negotiating offer to the EU on Wednesday in pursuit of a "fair and reasonable" Brexit compromise.

The prime minister will address the Tory conference before submitting new proposals, intended to form the legal text of a new Brexit deal, to Brussels.

Only by leaving the EU on 31 October can the UK "move on", he will argue.

The public will no longer be "taken for fools" by those who want to delay or block the process, he will claim.

On the eve of his speech, Mr Johnson told a conference fringe meeting in Manchester, hosted by the DUP, that he hoped to reach a deal with the EU over the course of "the next few days".

The government has insisted it will not negotiate a further delay beyond the Halloween deadline, saying this would be unnecessary and costly for the UK.

However, under the terms of a law passed by Parliament last month, the PM faces having to request another extension unless MPs back the terms of withdrawal by 19 October - two days after a summit of European leaders.

On Tuesday, Mr Johnson dismissed leaked reports that customs posts could be set up on either side of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

He said suggestions the UK wanted "clearance zones" for goods as part of a package of alternative arrangements to replace the Irish backstop were wide of the mark.

While he conceded some customs checks would be needed as the UK leaves the EU's customs union and single market, he said technology could keep them to an "absolute minimum".

The BBC's Europe editor Katya Adler said the mood in Brussels was "not optimistic".

She said EU leaders feared the prime minister's proposed alternative to the Irish backstop could mean the bloc abandoning its red lines - something member states were not willing to do at the moment.
