It's a written version of upspeak, a type of intonation used by Australians, children, and idiots. It turns every statement into a question. The only legitimate users are Australians, it's a fundamental part of their idiom. Non-Australians over 12 years old who use it are idiots, it's a shibboleth for lack of intelligence when used by non-ozzies.

^ There are no benefits to be gained by leaving the EU. The UK needs freedom of trade and freedom of movement. The UK needs the EU. It's time the UK learnt more about the EU and its advantages rather than whining on the sideline all the time.

Wish I could agree, because about the best result I can think of for UK right now and under current conditions is A50 revocation; and had our glorious leader not fallen to her knees and committed her gov to even more concessions for this extension it's quite likely that would have happened.

The Tories will pay for their handling of Brexit and it won't come cheap, yet they would still score an undeserved victory in the next election since the people are not quite mad or angry enough to elect a Marxist PM.

Get real, this was written by the Germans, rubber stamped by their officials and handed to May with an invite to some choice position in the EU, or possibly even the UN!

Total victory to the EU, abject capitulation by the goodies.

Could be right, but nothing has been finalised and soon we will have another glorious leader. Not that I give too much hope to this silver lining, but so long as Parliament hold firm to reject May's surrender Treaty and stave off end of life as we know it, no deal kicks in as an option for the next gov to renegotiate.

While the EU view reunification as a heap of positives for it and equal negatives for the UK, HMgov acknowledges under Good Friday the desire for a united Ireland and also commits it to unification by peaceful means and consent of a majority. Should the SecState for NI believe that a majority of northerners is likely to vote to leave the UK and reunify the island he is obliged to offer a referendum (after at least 7 years from the last referendum).

Poor doc, can never resist a stab.

The LT was born after the EU's failed attempt to pass the EU Constitution; having been rejected by France and the Netherlands, the EU stepped in to 'democratically' cancel scheduled votes in UK, Ireland, Denmark, Portugal and a couple other member states, then refashioned it into the Lisbon Treaty keeping key parts of the failed Constitution while the gods of the day dropped or watered down more controversial aspects.

Only a fool or someone making up fictional facts would even suggest, never mind stoutly claim that the LT, a reconstituted Constitution, has no effect on the UK or ftm any other member state!

Well, it seems from the recent leaked cabinet record of recent meetings, the Civil Service has now been told to stand down from its hard Brexit preparation planning.

No question that the EU got one over us big time.

But still can't see Ref2 as I don't believe EU leaders are dumb enough to risk a landslide confirming Brexit, which narrows down the options to revocation and the surrender Treaty. The surrender Treaty must be seen as the worst possible outcome by all Brits with the exception of May and perhaps a handful of others, so I expect eventual revocation.

May is still on Plan A ...
Continuous extensions until revoke or surrender Treaty.

Says much of where we are at that Parliament has not tabled motions of censure for consistently lying to them.

Real slow even by your standards that you haven't figured out a) we're not leaving, but that's understandable since you also have trouble with b) May has spent over two years formulating plans to keep us from leaving.

No question of 45 years, give it 5-10 before the Socialist project goes tits up.

You do realise the Union could never be 'federalised' into the Republic of Europe, until all of its monarchies are deposed?

Tbf I don't suppose Belgians would blink over that.

Brits who do most of their business with the US or China for example may hope for a swift trade agreement that the EU has failed to ever come up with. Brits living in Australia of which there are more than in the entire EU might hope for freedom of movement with Australia. There are hundreds of other examples if only you take the time to open your eyes and gain some empathy.
You obviously have problems drawing conclusions from available facts. That ability does not automatically imply what's best on a personal level.

One hopes you aren't in management, even at a junior level, with your obvious lack of ability.

ok this is what happened behind closed doors in the negotiation and why Macron conceded to the extension

In essence, Merckel doesn't want to see the UK leaves, and will do anything to delay their exit. Her influence in the EU is still strong. In the late night session, Macron was isolated with Belgium and Spain against everyone else. Merkel wanted to go with more than 1 year, possibly 2 years flexible extension. Macron fiercely opposed to it, and the new date was set for 6 months instead.
