The size of the British economy is little more now than a function of its debt underpinned by a services oriented sector contributing 80% of its entire GDP but the metrics make for grim reading and the UK's descent in the table of big league players is pretty much assured now that the COVID indebtedness is combining with the Brexit induced economic contractions expected to last for a decade shaving 2% annually from growth - debt to GDP ratio now stands at 102%.

In terms of manufacturing the UK is less than Italy and soon to be surpassed by Spain. And certainly, when Scotland leaves the Union, the UK will be a relative minnow and frankly not eligible for inclusion in the G7 group of nations.

Like any post colonial empire trading on its ever-increasing emotive bombast andl xenophobic parochialism, it's running on fumes from an old engine that is pretty nearly clapped out - manufacturing contribution to GDP is but a mere 9% and with the Brexit fallout that figure will decrease when one takes into account the impediment to trade between Britain and the EU created by reimposition of customs and excise protocols, a trading bloc destination that accounted for over 48% of Britain's manufacturing output.

In EU terms the UK is now of course a third country on par with Peru which is quite apt since the two are now to pair under the terms of the TPP agreement to be signed by Blighty.

To be fair, possibly a first for TD, having spoken with family and friends in Blighty these past months, the moan that kept recurring is that the UK is becoming a 3W country, and its leaders appear unable to see it.

Not just covid, not just Brexit, not just the shambles they call the NHS, everything seems to be beyond the capability of the gov to address.

If you want more, however poorly most of them they portray life in the UK, their individual and collective fear is that the country is at risk of Labour taking the next election. That's how bad it is.
