    s.a.

A deal is imminent, how disappointing.
indeed. who needs the fucking EU.

anyway, here's another nail on head telegraph article to cheer you up

The petulant EU, not Britain, has injected poison into the Brexit process

As the clock ticks down, threats to Gibraltar and a food blockade have shattered the delusion that Brussels is a benevolent institution

    ALEXANDRA PHILLIPS

    Alexandra Phillips

The EU never has been benign and benevolent. If anyone personifies the inherent absurdity at the heart of the project, it’s floppy-haired fanatic Guy Verhofstadt, once Prime Minister of Belgium and now manically gesticulating showboater in the European Parliament.

For anyone who missed the BBC Four documentary series Storyville from October last year, deliberately squirrelled away on iPlayer, it’s a must watch. Called Brexit Behind Closed Doors, it candidly catches the attitudes of EU negotiators towards the UK. Staffers for the European Parliament Brexit Rapporteur, the same frothing Guy, triumphantly bang the desk and declare that they will make us a colony as their overlord gushes profanities and derides Theresa May as "pathetic" and "insane". Meanwhile, the taped conspiratorial insinuations of Barnier wargaming the fragile Good Friday Peace Agreement should render any self-respecting nation united in the conviction that leaving the horror bloc is not just preferable, but the only sane choice.

Yet as the negotiations passed deadline after deadline, rather than highlight the fact that the EU’s audacious demands made securing a progressive future relationship unattainable, the majority of the political commentariat queued up to scoff at the UK’s "unicorn" decision to become a democratically self-determining nation.

Yet Brussels constantly shifted the goalposts, withdrawing the offer of a Canada-style agreement and demanding dynamic alignment beyond the scope of any extant trading relationship. It stipulated Gibraltar be detained under EU border controls, manufactured a peace threat over the Irish Border to blackmail the UK into choosing between EU jurisdiction and the annexation of a constituent country, and even threatened a food blockade within our own borders. It added the menace of sanctions against the UK for fishing its waters and, via Macron, choreographed a freight blockade under the guise of Covid-19 as the Brexit clock ticks down, despite supply chains operating without hindrance during the rest of the pandemic.

If negotiations over a Brexit deal have shown us anything, it is the exposure of cracks in the veneer of virtue under which the EU has hidden for decades, exposing an ugly neo-colonialism that makes the former Soviet Union look like the United Nations.

To seasoned Eurosceptics, Brussels’s behaviour is nothing new. The EU’s intransigence on fishing is well-established, as European trawlers have indiscriminately dredged their own seas dry and so turned to the coastlines of the developing world as a condition of EU aid, exacerbating decimated fish stocks feeding piracy in East Africa and dependency on bushmeat in the West bringing about the horrors of Ebola.

The same is true of demands for a level playing field. Just as the EU has sought to forbid the UK from using state aid to incentivise inward investment to prevent further horrific job losses in the wake of Covid, yet exempt its own protection packages, it has authored faux equitable alignments around the world to enable a corporate cartel of big business to pillage the poorest countries of their resources through tariff-stripping while cynically curating distorted non-tariff barriers to protect profits on produced goods.

Even the shocking revelation that the rollout of a German-made vaccine is on hold across the EU, wilfully perpetuating fatal risk for millions of citizens in the name of so-called solidarity, should have united the world’s media in uproar, yet barely caused a ripple.

For decades the EU has managed to engineer an image of being a force for good, even after Molotov cocktails lit up dusky Athens skies during the Eurozone crisis as democratically elected leaders were forced from office and poverty-inducing austerity was imposed by the EU’s Troika across the Mediterranean.

At the very least, Brexit has once again shone a light on what has been clear to right-minded observers for years: a megalomaniacal Brussels is simply unable to compute the concept of an independent nation making a success of bespoke democracy.

The DT is no longer anything other than a rag for right wing neo fascist nationalist Tories. But Phillips is nowt but a Brexit Kipper hag who sucked Farage's dick. And she never got over Guy taking the piss out of the Brexshitters.

The UK has created for itself an economic status that is worse than that which prevailed before Brexit. That is not an achievement, it is a fuckup. The FTAs so far negotiated by the ERG loons are no better than those that existed under the EU status and any new global trade is minimal and comes nowhere near to compensating for the loss of unfettered EU commerce. Similarly, the loss of access for its service based economy to the EU is another failure that bodes ill for the future.

All in all, it is as predicted, an annual loss of £100 billions to GDP for a decade but only a fucking idiot could describe it as progress or a victory.

You lost a reservoir of labour, a market place and free movement for future generations.

When you Brxit oldies die off we will be back in for sure.

What on earth do you mean, a 'renaissance'? Britain is a clapped out post colonial vestige of redundant imperialism addicted to debt with the worst socialised welfare standards in Europe that treats the majority of its citizens no better than fodder for the consumerist machine and celebrates a culture obsessed by greed, ephemera and envy.

Essentially, cut adrift from the EU it is no more than a champagne diluted turd revolving within its own cesspit of parochial, nationalistic isolation as it desperately tries to insert itself up the anus of American hegemony.

Tax, you're a fart in the breeze of a blown economy and doomed to insignificant mediocrity as the world passes you by indifferent to your pitiful attempts at emulating past Empire glories. You have become a joke, a laughing stock and no-one give a fuck.

I was hoping for an announcement by Boris tonight but it appears to have been delayed. Not unexpected considering it is Brexit related.

Interested to know what compromises were made.

It will still be chaos at the ports, even with a deal, but the last couple of days should show where improvement is needed.

It is confirmed then. Seekingass is not only Barniers bum boy, but also Guy Verhofstadts speech writer. SAs likeness to the bumbling raging looney is quite remarkable.

EU to allow post-Brexit UK farm produce exports

The UK government has told the agricultural industry that the EU will allow almost all food and plant exports from Great Britain to continue after Brexit.

As a first step, the UK has to be awarded "third country" listed status to be allowed to export to the EU.

A Defra letter says the EU will confirm this legally on Monday, with effect from 1 January.

This will apply irrespective of a post-Brexit deal.

Brexit: EU-UK trade deal expected, as cabinet briefed

The EU and UK appear close to striking a post-Brexit trade deal, with Boris Johnson briefing his cabinet on the progress of talks in Brussels.

Disputes over fishing rights and future business competition rules have been the major hurdles to agreement during months of often fraught talks.

But BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said Downing Street now seemed "very confident" of a deal.

Negotiators are now thought to be thrashing out the final details.

The official announcement of a deal is expected on Thursday morning.

    BREAKING

The EU and UK have reached a post-Brexit trade deal, ending months of disagreements over fishing rights and future business rules.

Downing Street said: "We have got Brexit done and we can now take full advantage of the fantastic opportunities available to us".

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will shortly hold a press conference, announcing the agreement.

It comes after months of wrangling in Brussels.

In a press conference in Brussels, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: "This was a long and winding road but we have got a good deal to show for it."

"It is fair, it is a balanced deal, and it is the right and responsible thing to do for both sides."

Mr Johnson tweeted a picture of himself smiling with both thumbs lifted in the air.

In its statement, Downing Street said: "Everything that the British public was promised during the 2016 referendum and in the general election last year is delivered by this deal.

"We have taken back control of our money, borders, laws, trade and our fishing waters."

By "Downing Street said," they obviously mean "Boris Johnson said." Phrases like "fantastic opportunities" and ""We have taken back control" are his style. He sounds like a tit.

We have taken back control of every jot and tittle of our regulation in a way that is complete and unfettered.
And now he sounds like Ken Dodd.

Well this is all so stage managed isn't it.

The reality is that it was always going to be a shit deal for Britain, because it was just a shit idea.

But now on Christmas Eve we're all supposed to buy into it...because it's better than William Rees-Mogg world.

    It's so fucking desperately corny.

But a vote against this deal is a vote for no deal, right?

Yeah, that's really 'taking back control' isn't it.

    Stupid fucking wankers.
