    meagre pension
i dont know s.a.'s financial position, but i do know that uk pensions for those whom have served their government and health service are gold plated, generous and inflation proof. the wise will have topped those up with one or two well researched private pensions, funded from income when the tax breaks were favourable.

the savvy, the sensible and the financially literate should have no trouble surviving the (temporary) blips that sterling is undergoing at present.
a period of hunkering down, hibernating, and holding steady is all that is required.

the sunny uplands will soon be visible as the clouds of confusion disperse, no need to panic.

The way he rabbits on about the exchange rate he is obviously struggling to cover his expenses and I cant imagine a civil service pension for a low end civil servant in charge of car parks and cemeteries amounts to much on its own. Plus he will have taken his pension early having been made redundant in his early 50s.

Those civil service pensions at the lowest end can provide a few hundred quid a week for 30 years of service.

I reckon the root of his frustration and angst is having to cut back on his nocturnal activities in soi 6.

Despite what he believes, and what he wants us to believe, he's as poor as a church mouse. Probably took a lump sum and a small stipend when Thatcher was slashing and burning the civil service.
Likely no more than EO grade, where thousands were rooted out of their jobs in charge of stationery. HMSO.

Similar to the majority of the CS who truly believed they were a cut above, he's now in denial as a non-entity.

Pound falls lower on no-deal Brexit prospect
    https://www.bbc.com/news/business-49162356

The pound has continued to fall on currency markets as the government insists that the UK is prepared to leave the EU without a deal.

Sterling hit a fresh two-year low of $1.2120 against the dollar on Tuesday, before recovering some ground.

The currency also slid against the euro, falling to €1.0881 at one point.

The fall in the value of the pound means UK tourists heading abroad could face a "horrendous summer", according to one currency expert.

Under new Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the government has toughened its stance on a no-deal Brexit, which it has said is "now a very real prospect".

The pound - which was trading at about $1.50 against the dollar before the EU referendum in June 2016 - has dropped by 2.4% since Monday, when a spokeswoman for Downing Street said that the UK would not enter talks with Europe unless the so-called Irish backstop is scrapped.

She said that because the EU has said it is not willing to renegotiate on this point, "we must assume there will be a no-deal Brexit on 31 October."

It follows comments at the weekend by Michael Gove, who wrote in the Sunday Times that the government was now "working on the assumption" of a no-deal Brexit,

Mr Johnson appeared to strike a slightly softer tone on Monday afternoon, when he said he would "hold out the hand" and "go the extra thousand miles" to strike a new Brexit deal.

However, it was not enough to stop the slide in sterling.

Brits having a nightmare on their summer holidays? They all go on all inclusive holidays with all booze and food in the price and only take £20 with them.

So you left 24 years ago rather than 25. Whoopee fucking-doo. You still seem to be well behind the times when it comes to Germany, it's tax system, and its role within the EU.

I see the airports are offering Brits 0.85 cents Euro for their BoJo Brexshit £.

And the septics in the House of Representatives are saying that no trade deal with the English loons is likely if the GFA is threatened by a BoJo Brexit.

The more amusing aspect of the BoJo/Gove fuckup preparations when they turn Engerlandia into a coon country is that they will buy redundant produce from farmers unable to sell their shit because of the Brexshit tariffs - apparently a whopping stupendous ginormously huge sum of.......£300 million has been set aside. The agri-food sector exports total £19 billion a year, and 60% goes to the EU. Should make a difference.

Still, once we get that American hormone, chlorine, bacteria riddled shit it will make things so much better.

Boris Johnson plays chicken with EU over no-deal Brexit

    Brexit - It's Still On!-11368646-3x2-940x627-jpg
Boris Johnson in Wales...said farmers worried about a no-deal Brexit will get "the support that they need".

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has visited Wales to reassure voters that his push for Brexit "come what may" won't hurt the economy and tear apart the United Kingdom.

    Key points:

    • Welsh farmers say they will suffer if the UK leaves the EU without a deal
    • Mr Johnson says it's "up to the EU" whether that happens or not
    • The EU says the existing withdrawal agreement won't be reopened

A day after Mr Johnson was booed in Scotland, he faced another tough reception from farmers — a group central to the Welsh economy — who fear economic havoc if Britain leaves the European Union without a divorce deal.

They say millions of sheep might have to be slaughtered if tariffs are slapped on lamb exports to the EU.

True enough, fvck I actually agreed with you.

Thailand has had its day as a major tourist destination for Europeans unless they are desperate sexpests

Far better deals closer to home nowadays.

Looks like the ERG who shorted £ are closing in on their coup.

I said this would happen months ago and it's coming to fruition like a fucking boil about to burst on BoJo's fat arse.

Reckon parity could well happen by end of August.....30 baht to the £.
Trivial facts, but toy with reality and you might discover that 11 years ago the £ bought $2.11.

By Feb 2016, which my calendar insists was before the referendum, the £ had fallen to a low of $1.37; it fell dramatically, by 1/3, before Brexit even came into view.

From there the £ slid another few cents under May's 3-year tenure, which was painful but within its trend line IF you consider her catastrophic handling of the negotiations which brought on crippling uncertainty, while the doom sayers and assorted internet experts were probably responsible for a couple of those cents once in gear claiming the end of the world I told you so aren't I a fcuking demon.

Post-May, the £ weakened because Bojo took the only position available to him which happens to be the best tactic to kickstart negotiations, borrowed from page 2 of the EU's own negotiations manual, that of intransigence and preparation for a no-deal, and which I remind you <sigh> means not no-deal but lack of a formal WA. Since he took office last week, the skittish markets are asking if we are prepared for such an unlikely outcome, and have taken the opportunity to add the Corbyn discount as a buffer, knowing full well he could not reach DS under the worst case scenario. If you know anything about markets, you will know they tend to exaggerate in both directions.

And again, the deal or (perceived) no-deal debate is an effective diversion from the irreparable damage any form of exit does to the EU. Put simply for the shortsighted, if/when we leave, with or without a deal, it will set in motion, or rather accelerate the demise of the EU.

We haven't really got a low limit that is likely to materialise. It's irritating but not critical, my disdain for the Brexshit scummy rabble arises from the awful truth they are an offence against nature and so fucking stupid it's hard to credit that they can still breathe never mind type, walk, shit and eat. It's just so offensive that white folk could be so dumb, almost a betrayal of the species.

Wogs trying to be whiter than their hosts has always been a feature of the sycophantic immigrant ingratiating themselves with their host, the Welsh have been doing it for centuries. They'll learn, in the end.

So immigrants wanting to integrate is somehow wrong now. You've lost the plot old bean. The wingman must find you insufferable waking up every morning and checking the exchange rate, your rants must be a spectacle to behold.

The racism card has been a fundamental war cry of the Remainer from day one, the fact that most Leavers voted on a point of control seems to have been ignored by Sausages and his Corbynistas, poor chap. I for one don't have a problem with him and his Asian chap coming to the UK, just don't see why we should have to pay for him and that's not racist.
