Personally, I believe that tariffs should be imposed if you are protecting a local manufacturer from overseas products. You should look after your own. However, it's a two way street. If you are protecting your own country, then you can't complain if somebody does the same to you. This is no different to what Thailand does now.

There is virtually no tariff on goods imported into NZ (Except booze, oil and ciggies).Been like this for almost 20 years now.The result is that we make almost nothing now except for Timber, meat and dairy. A slow death to our manufacturing Industry.

What Trump is doing, is saying that because they have a trade deficit with China, he wacks on a tariff for the sake of it The same people that he is trying to protect (on face value) are the same people that shop at Walmart and buy cheap Chinese crap.

What he doesn't understand is that the Chinese govt. might whip up Chinese nationalism so much, that a large portion of the population will shun American goods like the plague. They could cut off their nose despite their face and go much harder on US imported goods. This is where the concept of 'Face' rears its ugly head, no matter what the price.

Other Countries in SEA and South America must be licking their lips in the anticipation on being much more competitive.People will always buy cheap goods. If he stops them coming from China, they will still come from somewhere else.

The USA no longer have a national Sea Freight carrier. American President Lines was sold years ago to the Singaporeans, who then on sold to the froggies two years ago.

China has merged it's two national carriers and have just bought OOCL to make them probably the third largest carrier owner(COSCO), behind Denmark (Maersk) and Switzerland (MSC).

Any pull out of COSCO in the Trans Pacific trade, would mean that freight rates would triple in the short term )

You bring up a very valid issue and collateral damage from Trump's trade war. There must be other things that will be affected too, worldwide.

I remember back in the 80s when Japan were dumping VCRs everywhere. I think it was France that didn't want to get in a trade war with tariffs, but basically throttled their imports by insisting that each and everyone had to be opened and inspected.

I am sure that will come up in his approval process. Based on his acceptance speech comments, he is really a suck up to the Supreme Leader. He just couldn't help gushing about that, whereas what is needed is an objective (and unbiased) justice that understands the rule of law.

What is the rationale for that preposterous stance? Opinions of Supreme Court Justices should not just be heartfelt feelings but be built from considering the facts. A wise man proportions his belief to the evidence.

Why is the argument of "A man under investigation should not be able to select the judge who may hear his case" not being more forcefully pushed? It's a completely sane and reasonable argument.

Whether I do or not makes no difference. In a sane and uncorrupt place, a man under investigation and who may face charges doesn't get to pick his judge. In any reasoned and rational justice system, judges should be making decisions based on the facts.

Are you suggesting Trump is picking the judge who would be presiding over anything he could be charged with?

Trump has pardoned the ranchers that conducted an armed occupation of federal land.

Imagine if they had been black: not only likely not pardoned but even if they were it would have to be posthumous.

Edit: my bad I got my angry white dudes confused. These were the ones that burned shit, the armed occupation was in response to their jailing.

Non Americans have a difficult time understanding the Presidential legal issues. The Constitution does not directly address whether the President can be prosecuted. Neither does federal law. Courts have never ruled on the issue.

So most of the posters bemoaning Trump and the judges above are wrong. Most American legal scholars think sitting president cannot be indicted which is why CNN (International edition available in Thailand) gets it's legal opinions from Europe and not experts in the USA. If you are watching CNN and others like it you are not getting the correct info. Ken Starr a respected attorney acquaintance of mine does not agree with me and we have had a number of discussions about the issue and I don't think he is right. He doesn't think I am correct either and points out I am not a lawyer although i did attend law school for one year.

So if you are going to bet on the issue the odds favor Trump over those who want to charge him with a crime while he is a President. The worse crime would be running Mrs. Clinton again for President which would mean another 4 years of Trump.

What planet do you live on? Most American legal scholars DO NOT think that they are split. With regards to CNN that is an outright lie. So Mark do you just make this shit up as you go along?

CNN's chief legal analyst is Jeffery Toobin. Toobin graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude with a J.D. in 1986 where Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan was a classmate of his. While there, he had been an editor of the Harvard Law Review. CNN also has Alan Dershowitz on regularly as well as John Dean the former White house counsel under Richard Nixon who was involved in the watergate coverup and ultimately turned on Nixon. To further pile it on they also regularly have Jill Wine-Banks the former Watergate prosecutor as well.

Maybe you could tell me which one of those is European Mark?

I think it is only 11 on ignore. I'll have to check. The last thread I started has 50 or 60 responses so far and that even after a name change in an attempt to besmirch my sterling reputation. And you responded almost immediately so I guess I have at least one avid reader. So what percent is 11 out of the total number of Teakdoor posters?

Edit to add. Any posts I make the usual suspects are immediately there and that adds more posts to a thread that might have gone unnoticed. So I think that is a positive for the forum in general. Don't you agree?

So baldy orange cunto has been gobbing off again, this time whinging about NATO not spending enough to support American interests, and then claiming that Russia owns Germany.
