    I spend a bit of time in Idaho which is an open-carry state. Every time I see some dude packing, I look at him and try to convince myself they are more emotionally stable than I am. It never works. They obviously have something to prove like... "I'm a bigger, more powerful redneck than you are because I have a gun on my belt." The NRA has taken over the USA with its "guns are good" propaganda.

    On CNN's town hall today, Rubio said he would still take NRA donations in the future. Proof that politicians have absolutely no conscience.

    Lil Marco took a bit of a beating but at least he showed up. Credit the the kids. Articulate, focused and clearly dedicated to their cause. Skeptical they will be any great progress on gun control but so far looking more promising than any movements following past school shootings.

    Beholden to $$$$ like the MIC, Big Pharma and other special interests.

    Students where I grew up walked out of schools today. One of them said he thinks of the best escape route if there was a mass shooting. Many, most, or almost all students have thought about this at least once.

    Donald Trump: "What many people don't understand is that the folks who work so hard at the NRA are Great People and Great American Patriots. They love our country and will do the right thing."
    Meet Ted Nugent, N.R.A Board Member:

    • dodged the draft by shitting himself;
    • made himself the guardian of a 17 year old girl so he could have a relationship with her;
    • supported Apartheid;
    • said of then POTUS "Obama's a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun" and "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year", and that Obama was a "subhuman mongrel";
    • criticized Zach de la Rocha's comment that the "current administration . . . should be hung and tried and shot" saying that "none of our rhetoric included threatening lives", "these guys are over the top" and "they're the lunatic fringe" and that "nobody is condemning this outrageous violence that they're recommending.";
    • the usual Republican multiple marriages / abandoned kids 'Family Values!(TM)' shite...; and of course
    • thinks that guns are more important than lives.

    Yep, that's a Great People and Great American Patriot right there!

    Just read a comment that reminded me of something...

    Growing up my dad was quite an avid hunter and he would take myself and my brother along on occasion. He always kept guns in the house for that purpose, originally a bolt-action .308, later replaced by a lever-action version, and a couple of .22s for my brother and I.

    Both of the .308s were used for pig and deer hunting and from memory both had five round magazine clips (maybe less on the older one, certainly not more) and looked pretty much identical to this:

    This is the gun of choice for most nutters in mass shootings and what the NRA believe should be freely available because of an almost 230 year old Amendment. Because well-regulated militias. Because hunting. Because Freedom(TM) and stuff:

    .....

    Here's how the day started — with NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre at the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC (emphasis ours):

    "Can we protect so much with armed security, while we drop our kids off at school, that are so-called gun-free zones, that are wide-open targets for any crazy madman bent on evil to come there first? There first? In every community, PTAs, teachers' unions, local law enforcement, moms and dads – they all must come together to implement the very best strategy to harden their schools, including effective trained, armed security that will absolutely protect every innocent child in this country. That has to happen now. Evil walks among us, and God help us if we do not harden our schools and protect our kids. ...
    Hours later, Trump was at the White House talking about school safety after last week's mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school. Notice, Trump used some of the same talking points, key words and phrases as LaPierre (again, emphasis ours):

    "We have to harden our schools, not soften them. A gun-free zone to a killer or somebody who wants to be a killer, that's like going in for the ice cream. That's like 'here I am, take me.' We have to get smart on gun-free zones. When they see 'this is a gun-free zone,' that means that nobody has a gun except them, nobody's going to be shooting bullets in the other direction. And they see that, it's such a beautiful target. They live for gun-free zones.

    How depressingly predictable this reaction is, while being utterly adsurd at the same time.

    They should fire all the reporters and just let Oliver and Colbert tell us the satirised, absurd version...ie the reality.

    The trained, armed, security gaurd in this case obviously decided his six shooter was no match for an assault rifle.

    Anybody post thid yet......

    I never said 'give teachers guns,'" Trump wrote in a post on Twitter one day after raising the idea at a White House listening session with survivors of the shooting. "What I said was to look at the possibility of giving 'concealed guns to gun adept teachers with military or special training experience - only the best.'"

    Just read this morning that there was a uniformed, armed cop assigned to the school in the Florida slaughter. He elected to hide outside, never entered the building, and never even unholstered his weapon. He has since resigned.

    Were I him, I think I might relocate as well.

    So much for armed cops at schools being the solution. Granted, he was in his 60's, but I doubt departments will ever assign their best to schools on the very slim chance that their school's number comes up.

    What arms did he have?
    I'm assuming only a pistol?

    In the article below it says the protocol is to confront the shooter, stop or kill him.

    If I had a pistol going against and AR-15 I'd be worried.

    I can't comment on this particular story though, but I don't see an "armed guard" as a solution nor even a deterrent.

    But just remember:

    The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

    Oh.

    A man who was carjacked in Houston, Texas over the weekend is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound after a witness accidentally shot him in the head while trying to stop the auto thieves.

    The incident happened Saturday night at a Valero gas station in North Houston. Authorities say the victim was parked in his truck at the gas station when he was approached by two men who attacked him and stole his vehicle.

    An unidentified witness who was parked at a gas pump saw the whole theft going down, pulled out his gun and shot at the suspects as they were getting away in the car.

    However, he ended up hitting the victim, sending the innocent man to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the head.

    In my home state of WA there is a proposal by a state senator to arm teachers with guns and training.

    I haven no opinion at this time. I suppose it's better than nothing.

    Sen. Fortunato wants to arm teachers in Washington schools

    LISTEN: State Senator Phil Fortunado on his bill that would arm teachers

    Washington State Senator Phil Fortunato has a solution to school shootings — arm teachers with guns.
    “You put armed people in school tomorrow afternoon, our children will be safer,” Fortunato told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson. “So the only proposal that will actually protect our children, is the proposal to put armed people in schools to protect our children.”
    RELATED: Gun control case that never made it to the Supreme Court

    President Donald Trump delivered a similar statement recently; promoting teachers with guns. The state senator says that he is currently drafting a new bill that would arm teachers in Washington’s schools.
    “We’re proposing to set aside $10 million, put it in a program to have the Criminal Justice Training Commission — which currently trains our police officers — to come up with a standardized training program we could use throughout the state,” he said. “As the president said, our proposal is not a mandatory requirement. Simply, if you feel you want to participate in this program, here it is. This is what you can do to help protect your students.”
    Fortunato says his bill will essentially allow school districts to participate in a training program. Teachers could apply for the training. They would undergo a psychological evaluation, get de-escalation training, and experience with a firearm.
    “Let’s say we have a high school and we have 50 teachers and administrators, heck the janitor could participate in this …” Fortunato said. “Out of those 50, five of them decide to participate in this project. Which five? So the whole secret is if somebody was to attempt to do something, he doesn’t know which teacher or which administrator would be armed in that situation. That would be a force multiplier by keeping that information confidential.”
    The state senator argues that students should get the same protection as valuables and celebrities.
    “This is one of the things that makes me laugh,” he said. “It’s a sad thing to say – we protect our money. When an armored car pulls up, guys with guns get out. I’m protected by armed security. If something happens, a state patrolman sits outside my house with a gun to protect me. Yet, we protect our children with a gun-free zone sign. This is nonsense.”
    “Somebody that has already made the decision that they are going to kill somebody, the last thing they are worried about is a magazine ban and all this other nonsense,” he added.
    Arm teachers, or not

    Greg Burns is with the Tactical Training Academy. They teach courses to handle active shooter incidents and handgun marksmanship. Burns recently told KIRO Nights that he would not favor placing teachers with guns in schools. Rather, he prefers school resource officers. He said that using a firearm requires being responsible for every round that leaves your gun.
    Though Burns’ point centers on the training aspect that Fortunato discusses.
    When I was in law enforcement I heard of a story of an off-duty sergeant who went into a McDonald’s – off-duty, plain clothes, and carrying. Some guy ended up coming in and robbing this McDonald’s. This off-duty police officer ended up drawing his firearm and getting into a gunfight with this bad guy and killing that bad guy.
    … one of the rounds of that gunfire ended up hitting a 12-year-old girl having a birthday party and killing her. My point in telling that story is really simple. That officer had thousands, and thousands of hours of training on how to use a firearm and how to do so safely. Still, with all of that, when he was put into a situation that he wasn’t ready for, wasn’t prepared for, there ended up being casualties.
