To be fair, it is a symbol of oppression and racism for a significant portion of the population but for some it is only about feelings of antebellum nostalgia. The flag should come down over the South Carolina capitol because it was put there in a spirit of defiance over anti-discrimination laws. It is not the state flag and engenders very negative feelings by a significant population of the state. As far as belt buckles, license plates etc. let them knock themselves out.

It has no place on any government/public buildings . . . if individuals want to publish the fact that they are inbred racists by wearing a belt buckle like this then go for it . . . perhaps sooner or later they'll realise what an affront it is to their fellow countrymen
Although to be fair I don't think it's the most pressing issue you boys have to deal with at the moment. It comes a poor third after telling your cops to stop killing black folks on sight and teaching your white boys to quit killing children.

KKK Plans Pro-Confederate Flag Rally In South Carolina
Members of the Ku Klux Klan have announced plans to rally next month in South Carolina in support of the Confederate flag.
State officials confirmed to The Washington Post that the Loyal White Knights chapter of the KKK got permission to meet at the statehouse in Columbia on July 18. The group's website says it is the largest Klan in America.

Actually Bob, we already posted up who originated the slave trade in the Americas, but unfortunately you folks had it taken out of this thread, due to the truth of the matter being: The British are the originators of the African Slave Trade. That's "Fact!"Originally Posted by DrB0b

BBlack Civil Rights Icon Andrew Young: Problem Is Blacks Killing Blacks, Not Confederate Flag
Black civil rights icon and former Mayor of Atlanta Andrew Young says that debate over the Confederate flag is a divisive non-issue which completely distracts from the real problem – the fact that 93% of blacks are killed by other blacks.
Young is widely recognized as a prominent activist for the African-American civil rights movement, having been a personal friend and supporter of Martin Luther King. Young marched with King in Selma, Alabama and was with King when he was assassinated. He was also instrumental in pushing through the 1964 Civil Rights Act and 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Young, a former Democratic Congressman, was also the United States Ambassador to the United Nations and served as President of the National Council of Churches USA. He cannot be dismissed as an “Uncle Tom” or an apologist for right-wing Republicans.
In an interview with Fox 5 Atlanta, Young skewers the politically correct outrage mob that has targeted the Confederate flag in the aftermath of the Charleston shooting, asserting that the elimination of southern heritage will do nothing to address the problems faced by black people today.
“The challenge for us is not to wipe out our past history but to learn to live together in the future,” said Young.
BLACK CIVIL RIGHTS ICON: THE PROBLEM IS BLACKS KILLING OTHER BLACKS, NOT THE CONFEDERATE FLAG -
It's pretty established in the US South, if one doesn't want that Black couple seen looking at the house for sale next door moving in, one hangs a Confederate flag on the front porch. Scares crap out of them.
Can't tell this Southerner it isn't a racist symbol.

So you are saying only people directly involved in this should be allowed to share their opinions?
Do you have a template on who is considered 'worthy' of discussing a topic - any topic?
I guess that rules you out of any topic not directly related to you - like political pictures because it also has non-US pics.
Muslims outside of the USA . . . or hang on - where are you from exactly, because that would only make you eligible to discuss Muslims in your city . . . or street . . . or house.
Hang on you don't live in the US, so only Muslim issues in your moo ban . . . or again, your house . . .
In other words - you are only allowed to post on what is going on in your house - about yourself - that doesn't involve anything or anyone outside it.
Ah, that makes sense on an open forum
You and Rickshoppers can share a room

You have become the champion shit-stirrer aboard TD lately - especially since you got your old nick back.

FAKE HATE: Black Activist Admits Hanging Confederate Flag from Black Soldier Memorial
Call off the race-hustlers… It’s just another fake hate incident.
Melissa Carino pulled down a Confederate flag from the Robert Gould Shaw and Massachusetts 54th Regiment Memorial across from the State House on Sunday. (Boston Globe)
A Confederate flag was hung on a Boston memorial to black soldiers on Sunday night.
The Boston Globe reported:
A Confederate battle flag was attached Sunday night to a Boston memorial that commemorates one of the first all-black regiments to fight for the union during the Civil War, hanging there for over an hour before a woman removed it.
Melissa Carino, 37, of Lowell said she saw the flag hanging from the Robert Gould Shaw and Massachusetts 54th Regiment Memorial across the street from the State House at about 8 p.m. Carino said she left and returned to the location later, angered that it had not been removed.
Now here’s the rest of the story…
A black activist hung the flag for shock value.
The Boston Globe reported:
A man claiming responsibility for hanging a Confederate flag from a memorial for black soldiers says he didn’t intend it as a racist gesture—and in fact was protesting the symbol and what he believes it represents.
Some who saw the flag hanging from the memorial—including a woman who took it down—interpreted its placement as a hateful gesture. The flag hung from a sword held by a sculpture of Col. Robert Gould Shaw, commanding officer of the Union Army’s Massachusetts 54th Regiment.
Harvard Medical and MIT student Stephen Allsop told Boston.com that he was part of a group of demonstrators that left the flag on the memorial after a Confederate flag-burning ceremony on Sunday evening.
Allsop said he and five others gathered at the memorial at 7 p.m., where they burned two Confederate flags as a way to show “solidarity with people who live in states like South Carolina” where the flag remains a “blatant issue.”
