Even if it is from the plane, it could have floated thousands of miles to get there and the location of the rest is unknown.

It doesn't actually rule out the current search area.

Why didn't they just phone in a part[s] number, seconds to verify on computer, sure even a reporter could phone up and ask for a number.

A damaged suitcase has been found at Saint-André in Réunion island, at the same location a wing piece believed to belong to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was recovered. Local police confirmed reports that the suitcase washed up in Réunion, according to Julien Delarue, a journalist with Journal de L'île de la Réunion.

Read a team from Malaysia are flying over to check it, paid holiday for some people.
A phone photo sent to Malaysian authorities, with a part number showing would save a trip, or confirm the need, they posted a pic already of the piece, why not some more.

After the Malaysian handling of the original disappearance, who would believe anything they say now.

It's too important to the families to handle it in such a cavalier manner.

They are doing the right thing going there, and I would imagine their PR company told them to go.

Plus they have a few aircraft laying around at the moment, so they can probably afford to go there directly!

I am glad I have Teak Door contributors for comments. I just looked into a reddit thread on this and it is unbelieavably stupid and gross over there. Refreshing voice of reason here.

Edit: I am serious. This comment would be one of the most rational over there.

According to the BBC, bit of alleged wing is now on it's way to France, another Malaysian team is on it's way to France.
One going to Reunion island to look at something that's on it's way to France, seems Malaysia doesn't have phones, or couldn't ask what was happening.
Free holidays with expenses for some, or do the French not trust the Malaysians.

Geesh ..hope it is 370 and the rest is found !

    Interesting article:

MH370 was 'shot down by US military', claims former French airline boss ? RT News

Jim ..weather channel article "Investigators have found a number on the part, but it is not a serial or registration number, Truss told the AP. It could be a maintenance number, which may help investigators figure out what plane it belongs to, he said."

Since there have been no reported incidents of the loss off a B777 one must only think that perhaps the examination of the the wing part is buying time till a feasible story is invented for public consumption. Interesting that the part was sent to France not to Boeing?

Reunion is a French department so they took control same as Australia took control when the search was near their coast.

Inspecting the map indicates the plane could have crashed in the Arctic ocean. The "wreckage" returning south through the Alaska passage, South past japan, eqast across to the US, west back across the pacific to Austrailia and then back up north into the Indian ocean.

How many, per year, of these flaps fall off planes which don't crash?

There are a lot of topless women on Reunion beaches. Don't want those Malaysians getting distracted.

Looked very clean and shiny for a thing that's been floating in the sea for so long. No barnacles or seaweed and no corrosion that I could see.

What conspiracy are you angling at?

Awash in the open ocean. Looks like a few crustaceans adhered though.
Boeing specification of highly corrosion resistant alloys and chemical resistant epoxy coatings may have helped somewhat.

B777 flaperon washing up in the Indian Ocean : The theory of pilot intervention remains. Not really that original or difficult either - we used to joke about doing something similar with a load of Marcos' gold out of Manila....

The OZ press were saying today that that China has refused to contribute any money to the search effort,OZ has spent $76m,Malaysia $40m even though 153 chinese were on board.
    The Chinese did a bit of grandstanding with a plane and a ship at the start;
Deputy pm Warren Truss confirmed China was asked to go thirds but refused to contribute resources or equipment.

convenient how all this is happening just as the Nato Dutch front is fabricating a report on the other Malaysian flight shot down by the Ukrainians, pinning it on the Russians. A report that even they are claiming is just going to be made up with no evidence, ignoring all the real evidence pointing towards a Ukrain jet shooting it out of the sky.

Very convenient. Wonder if they broke it up in Diego Garcia or somewhere else before dumping a few items to be found.
