Honestly I do not think the country will split. But more likely internally crumble. Just as in the far south you have an uprising that so far no one has been able to control. The amount of money that BK would have to spend to stabilize "ethnic" unrest would break the bank. Foreign investors would look elsewhere and tourist havens would loose their appeal as violence becomes commonplace.

Again History repeating itself. Northern Island a small spot, was a huge blight on the British Economy. Its own economy stagnated for 20 years.

Very true. My point is that the people who hold high rank, are by and large the ones holding the country to ransom right now. In a revolution and purges that often follow, the skill sets to run a complex government and society are not instantly available.

Many ex colonial countries gaining independence found this. Socialist revolution, etc.

My apologies for sounding condescending to my northern kin.

. . . and is an answer to your suggestion that Thailand , as a democracy, has done better than anyone in the region, I believe.

There's only one motive, fiscal/trade gains or favour and a military defence pact to safeguard a British Commonwealth state.
My point exactly - and as to why we persist in keeping this anachronism alive? Fright

You're trying to suggest that your vote means anything in Singapore.
A dictatorship loosely clothed in the democratic process.

Not that it doesn't seem to work well, given their particular situation.

Malaysia? A cross between a theocracy and faux democracy.
What happened to the last opposition leader who looked like getting some momentum...

Oh, but the Paste assures us-
There were no immediate reports of violence but Thai television reported verbal clashes between voters and protesters at some polling stations
