Not at all. It has been updated, amended and tweaked many times over the years and calls for changes continue from both sides of the aisle so why declare it set in stone now?

The procedures for changing it are laid out in the document itself so it was clearly foreseen by the authors that it might need to be changed from time to time.

They all do, as far as I know. That's not the debate. We have a legal gun right here, just in case you've made a facile judgement about my view on the subject of gun ownership.

What bugs me is the mindless view that you are only safe if you are a gun freak. Even the title to this thread leans that way by using the word 'should'. Guns are dangerous and potentially lethal - and don't come back with a poster that tells us spoons are too. In the hands of some of the crazy nuts who argue with false logic for the ever increasing proliferation of guns in a country that seems prepared to see kids shot to pieces at school and do nothing about it, they are the tools of the uncivilised.

That's never been my point of view.

Always maintained that gun safety is paramount starting at an early age. Teach kids respect for firearms.

How do y'all feel about this course of action:

Armed Citizen Project is providing a free shotgun to residents of a small town outside of Houston.

“We give brand new pump action shotguns, 12 gauge or 20 gauge,” explains founder of the Armed Citizen Project Kyle Coplen. In fact, Coplen is offering free shotguns to every homeowner in the Oak Forest neighborhood in Northwest Houston. “The area we’re doing has about 400 homes in it. There was 107 home invasions last year,” explains Coplen.

Coplen came up with the Armed Citizen Project in January after he was disgusted by one of those break-ins, when World War Two veteran Elbert Wood had his house broken into.

I have spent quite some time in South Africa and traveled extensively through many parts of the Country , whilst I was in the Capetown area I hardly heard of serious crime at all ,and as far as I am aware no one carried or had guns in their homes , compare that to Jo'bourg were gun murders and robbery with violence was a daily occurrence , I had the pleasure of meeting some really nice people at their homes ,every single home was like a prison with all the security systems and every single Adult had a handgun , what I am pointing out is it all depends were you live as to whether you need a gun to protect yourself and your family cos every area is different .

Well, as in the example of the self-defense shotgun give-away located in the great State of Texas, we'd have to side with 2nd Amendment folks since obviously, with all those break-in's/home invasions, the police can't do the job.

A free shotgun give-away say in NYC might not be appropriate but, as you say, every area is different.

Just read a newspaper article that said Concealed Carry applications were up 87% in Colorado for the first half of 2013. One applicant (female) said she was prompted by the New Jersey video of the woman being beaten by the intruder.

I would imagine the Zimmerman/Martin incident has also played a role in making many people realize that "You have to be responsible for your personal safety and the safety of your family."

If some jerk will violently attack you just because you are trying to keep an eye out for your neighbors homes, then no one is safe, regardless of where they are.

Perhaps if more and more, decent people start carrying arms, then criminals will realize that they can't just attack anyone they want with impunity.

Even an elderly person, or a smaller person, stands a decent chance against a large thug if properly armed and trained on how to shoot.

Libs, progressives, and criminals apparently hate this kind of logic. They apparently feel that it is better to let the criminals have their way, and then be arrested and prosecuted after the fact.

I disagree. Stopping (permanently) a potentially violent crime from occurring solves the problem of that one criminal forever, preventing not only that crime, but all the other crimes that individual would have committed (yes, most criminals who commit violent crimes make it a lifestyle.)

Texas has got oil and military bases and therefore is one of the (very) few red states that is a net contributor to the US national piggy bank.

I, unlike some, see events based upon the actions, not the individuals race or ethnic heritage.

You should try it sometimes. Life becomes less complicated and it clears your thinking, freeing it from ingrained biases.
