    surprisingly good politicians.

The Gubernator. Seemed like a buffoon, a caricature, aggresive, ignorant American. But he has some up with some solid policy, attracted bipartisan appeal and has avoided the stench that a close association with GWB now brings. Go Arnold!

Not really, but when I first heard he had been elected I just assumed he would go in for Conan The Barbarian style hard man "fuck you" politics but he seems quite pragmatic and non confrontational.

That former pro wrestler ( Jesse something ?? ) did better than expected as well.

Jesse Ventura was the guber of Minnesota, he seemed OK. But then again I liked his Fuk u attitude. Pleasantly outspoken.

Perhaps if someone was eccentric or a buffoon, or some regular person they might go in with some idealism and actually help folks...

    Before they become co-opted.....

So...if an eccentric wrestler or actress or whatever get elected....I think it's good.

Compare them to the so-called 'professional politicians.'

    No thanks......

Ronald Reagan, best president in living memory was not a 'professionsl' politician so they do come from non-attorney ranks too. But there are those that wish Arnie would give up this political gig and get back to the serious stuff like making Terminator 4 for Christ's sake!

Its hard to compare Arnold and Jesse....California is much larger and greater in influence in the USA than Minnesotta is...

    From 2005:

Schwarzenegger announced Monday that he had signed a proclamation calling a special election for Nov. 8, only the fifth special election in California since 1910. He wants voters to consider measures that would cap state spending, strip lawmakers of their power to draw legislative boundaries and increase the amount of time it takes public school teachers to get tenure.
He also is likely to endorse a measure curbing public employee unions' ability to raise political contributions from member dues. That move will almost certainly produce fierce opposition from national unions who view the measure as a blow to organized labor. Democrats oppose it because they draw substantial campaign funding from unions.
The unions drew money from all over the USA and Europe to fight him. They ended up spending $150 million to beat his measures. He should have fed them into the elections a couple at a time. Instead they all fell being guilty by way of association with the teachers and union dues issues. With his refrom measures soundly defeated, Arnie moved onto the next issues on his list which are environmental and more to the liking of Democrats.

(under the present system union officials determine which issues and candidates will receive contributions from union dues. Arnine proposed each union worker should be free to decide)

Reagan being the best is certainly debatable, but yes, I like the fact that he wasn't a liar - I mean lawyer.

The "Reagan revolution" lasted for about a year and a half.

Reagan's biggest mistake IMO, was naming George H. Bush as V.P.

    Laxalt would have been great.

    nonsense.

in addition to not being the 'best president in living memory' (especially for someone as long in the tooth as you boner), he most certainly was a professional politician.....he was elected governor of california in 1966.

I'm aware of that - have his signature on my sheepskin from UC Santa Barbara and proud of it!
btw - re. 'long in the tooth' - I'll match you mile for mile (km) in any marathon you choose...
