Bernie Sanders most retweeted candidate during debate
The Republican candidates on Thursday night’s stage may have all been fighting for attention, but who really stole the show (at least on Twitter) was a presidential candidate from the opposite party.
Bernie Sanders had the most retweeted presidential candidate tweet during the debate, according to Twitter Friday afternoon.
“Most-retweeted presidential candidate Tweet of #GOPDebate came from Democrat @BernieSanders,” Twitter’s government tracking arm tweeted.
Sanders’ tweet, which read “It’s over. Not one word about economic inequality, climate change, Citizens United or student debt. That’s why the Rs are so out of touch,” had been retweeted nearly 22,000 times as of Friday afternoon.

August 7, 2015 The second most retweeted tweet came from Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
“Watch the #GOPdebate? Bet you feel like donating to a Democrat right about now,” she tweeted with a link to her donation page.
A recent Monmouth University poll had Clinton in the lead at 52 percent and Sanders trailing with 16 percent. But 56 percent of voters said they would be satisfied if the Vermont senator became the nominee.

To appreciate the GOP debate, imagine you’re ‘extremely greedy and selfish,’ says Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders, the self-described democratic socialist running for president, had some advice Thursday for people preparing to watch the first Republican debate: Imagine you're “extremely greedy and selfish,” and the candidates will be speaking to you.
Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont who has emerged as the leading alternative to Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination, offered his preview of the GOP’s 10-candidate encounter in Cleveland during an interview on “The Agenda with Ari Rabin-Havt” on SiriusXM’s Progress Channel 127.

“Listen closely, and this is what they will tell you,” Sanders advised. “They want to give more tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires at a time when the rich are getting much richer. … Essentially, when you watch that debate, just imagine if you are one of the wealthiest people in this country and extremely greedy and selfish, and you're going to have 10 candidates more or less talking about your needs and not the needs of the working people.”
Sanders has seen his crowds swell and his poll numbers rise this summer as he rails against the political influence of the “billionaire class.”
