...while US neo-fascists want to see the returned hostages shot for treason, nuke Iran and implement a convert or die policy for Muslims worldwide.
If you need help translating some Goering or Goebbels quotes into English for your perusal, let me know, Earl.

The Iranian fanatics know very well all it will take is just one nuclear bomb to wipe out Israel.

Seems like you are willing to wait and allow that to happen.

Setting Iran up as the new boggie man is foolish anyway... wasn't it Sunni Jihad Salafists who attacked the US on 9/11? That ideology emminates covertly from Saudi Arabia and not from Political Islamist Shia Iran the tradtionial rivals of The KSA. Attacking the rivals of those who attacked you??? Smooth....

Btw, is it time Britain joined Europe, or how much longer are they going to cow-toe big brother across the pond - got nothing but spite and ridicule for their loyalty.

The Uk is the regional node of the emipre. The 51st state if you like... Part of the reason I don't live there.

If you mean "adopt the Euro as the national currency" - never.

Why should we become more deeply enmeshed with a bunch of self-serving bureaucratic money-wasters run by a bunch of krauts and their lap-dog frogs?

As for the incident of the OP, this is truly the nadir of the British armed forces and diplomacy. This group of kids - supposedly part of our navy? - are shown up to be scared children, and now given permission to sell their stories. Appalling. Doesn't anybody sign the official secrets act any more?

Agreed. there is already a bidding war going on and those involved are likely to be "inventive" while recounting the events to ensure more dosh, according to the former Brit Commander in Bosnia, whihc will make us look even more stupid becuase then the Iranina will be justly able to accuse of lies and propaganda.

And yet you Brits wanted in so badly and if it wasn't for the French, you would still be out. Why did we let you in the first place ? strategic mistake ? not sure but you guys are welcome to leave, you British are not team players anyhow, unless it involves a dressing room, showers and a bunch of naked men

All we wanted and what we were promised by our lying politicians (Ted Heath?) was access to markets - free trade! Not all the crappy political baggage that later came with it.

And now the pathetic UK government have done a U-turn. Useless bunch of twats.

Defence Secretary Des Browne admitted the outcome of his decision to let the 15 captured sailors cash in on their ordeals had not been 'satisfactory'.
What a wanker. I wonder how long before he says: "I thought they said they wanted to tell their story, not sell their story."

So you brits thought you could pick a single subject out of EU's portfolio and skip all the others.
    Bwahahaha, Santa comes every xmas..

Free trade, face it, you don't have anything to sell to us.
Your industry, while it existed, made the most crappy products in Europe.
In that respect, your favorite hate country France is light years ahead of you.

You are, and has always been, a bunch of backwards striving navel watchers. EU doesn't need you - you need EU.

So how old are you Lom? Are you so old you've forgotten or so young you didn't know that there was no EU when the UK joined in 1973? There was no "EU portfolio", just a market place.

The UK was lied to by Ted Heath who said it was just a better way of trading with Europe.

The UK joined the Common Market - the "EEC", not a Federal States of Europe. The only reason De Gaulle decided to stop saying "Non" was because he wanted our money to pay for all the crap stuff that the EEC was doing. Pissed him off no end when the great Maggie negotiated our rebate.

^ correct me if I am wrong, but you never made it to the EU before Tatcher. Being part of the EC has nothing to do with tough EU politics and adopting all the difficult Euro chapters. Even Turkey is part of EC, though not EU, yet (hopefully never).

So the great Mitterand (or was it his predecessor) let you guys in, and that's when the shit hit the fans for you brits. The only reason DeGaulles refused until he died was because he knew the Brits were trouble makers and were unreliable political partners (US influence). He had 4 years in London to make up his own mind about the British. Is history proving him right ? I hope not. I think the UK has a lot to offer politically and needs to get with the program and stop the silly EU/French/German bashing and start to live with others instead of being an isolated island.

You may well be right, but from our perspective it was just a progression - getting deeper and deeper into this horrible bureaucratic mess called "Europe" and being told what to do by a bunch a foreigners: how long and how straight our bananas must be, how UK chocolate is not real chocolate and all the labels must be changed. All that petty crap didn't endear me to Europe.

And you're right - we feel a greater affinity to the US than to Europe. As for the silly France/German bashing... we have long memories and living on an island has made us isolated from them, thankfully.

    Not a chance!

I loved this bit from the Telegraph:

Of course, I'm not suggesting that being captured and held prisoner for nearly two weeks was a picnic for any of the 15 Navy hostages, and who is not thankful that they are home safe and unharmed? Yet the suspicion remains that this ragbag of sailors would be hard pushed to collect the pedalo fares on a boating pond without making a hash of it.
Faye a heroine? That's an insult to our dead soldiers

When asked how her three-year-old daughter Molly had coped with her mother going missing, Turney replied that ''she bounces back like there is no tomorrow''. For the hundreds of soldiers who have died in this conflict, there is no tomorrow. If only Faye Turney had had the dignity to remember this before she sang like a canary to the tabloid press.
