Remember this topic from last year? I volunteered to attend if TD members would stump up the cash. Sadly, no one has come up with the readies, so TD won't be able to report on this one-off spectacular 'spit in the face of the poor' evening:
Bangkok banquet beckons for rich
Organisers say they want to inspire Thai chefs
Some of the world's wealthiest gourmands will be jetting into Thailand this weekend, enticed by a banquet sprinkled with Michelin stars.
The gala dinner will be cooked up by six three-star Michelin chefs and served at a restaurant on the 65th floor of a luxurious Bangkok hotel.
The grand title of the event - "Epicurean Masters of the World" - is matched by its price tag. The meal will cost diners 1m Thai Baht - about $29,000, or £15,000. Tax and service are not included.

The whole thing is justified in the name of tourism. The Thai organisers claim it will bring in high end tourism.
Personally, I think it's a disgrace (partly because I wasn't invited), but really, when there are so many Thais who can't afford a decent place to live, this is just offensive. Thailand is effectively saying 'we don't want normal people to come here, we only want big spenders with lots of money'.'
Deepak Ohri, md at the Dome, who organised the event, says: ''If the effect was to promote quality tourism, the result could be fewer tourists coming to Thailand, but paying higher prices.''
What he doesn't mention is that the menu is entirely European food. That's right, not a single bit of Thai food in the entire meal. Shows how much he really values his own culture, doesn't it?
And to top it all, the only Thai restaurant in the world with a Michelin rating is in London.
