Are there any stats out there yet that lesbian marriages are lucky to last 5 minutes? I expect marriages between male homos will last longer.

Well, to give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps it was not maleficent trolling.

But I think the legislators maybe need to check the batteries in their irony meters when they are titling their legislative bills.

...what matters, obviously, is the content of the bill and not the title...even mentioning irony and legislator in the same sentence invariably leads to unintended humor...

Biden signs marriage equality bill into law

President Biden on Tuesday signed a bill codifying federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriage.

Why it matters: The Respect for Marriage Act, which the House passed last week, comes amid heightened concerns about the right to gay marriage following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Driving the news: After Congress passed the law, Biden said: "On this day, Jill and I are thinking of the courageous couples and fiercely committed advocates who have fought for decades to secure nationwide marriage equality at the Supreme Court and in Congress."

    • "While we are one step closer on our long journey to build a more perfect union, we must never stop fighting for full equality for LGBTQI+ Americans and all Americans," he added.

State of play: The House voted 258-169 last week to pass the bill, sending it to Biden's desk for his signature.

So those against same sex marriage are all idiots in your superior view...

... I see no reason for given marriage status to same sex couples. Nothing but greed on their part.

Greed? How does greed factor into marriage rights?
You may disagree with same sex marriage but the reality is it is increasingly becoming the law of the land worldwide. Will in future be as commonplace as women being able to vote and legal for folks to marry someone not of their race.

Nope but no question a fair amount has changed in my lifetime. Black women got the right to vote in 1965 for example.

President Biden: Folks, racism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia — they’re all connected. But the antidote to hate is love.

Today is a good day. A day America takes a vital step toward equality, toward liberty and justice, not just for some, but for everyone — everyone. Toward creating a nation where decency, dignity, and love are recognized, honored, and protected.

Today, I sign the Respect for Marriage Act into the law.

Deciding whether to marry, who to marry is one of the most profound decisions a person can make. And as I’ve said before, and some of you might remember, on a certain TV show 10 years ago — I got in trouble. Marriage — I mean this with all my heart — marriage is a simple proposition: Who do you love, and will you be loyal with that person you love? It’s not more complicated than that.

And the law recognize that everyone should have the right to answer those questions for themselves without the government interference.

A study by UCLA of 500 vermont couples although a relatively small sample, found homosexual males relationships lasted the longest followed by hetrosexual couples with lesbians being the most likely to separate. It did only refer to relationships rather than specifically marriage and did not look at the quality of those relationships so most likely few conclusions can be drawn from this sample, although in other studies it does appear that lesbian relationships are the most unlikely to last long term.
What ever the results I would think no matter your view on same sex marriage and regardless of which are more stable it gets down to a fundamental question does someone else have the right to tell others who they should spend their life with? In this case their personal view on homosexuality has no relevance.
Should they be allowed church weddings? Although unlikely in the short term, I think it will be possible one day. If homosexual couples are demonstrably committed Christians and believe in the sanctity of a Christian marriage IMO they should be allowed this right, no different to committed hetrosexual couples being allowed a church wedding, as opposed to lip service christians of any sexual persuasion.
New Zealanders should not interprit this as a possibility they will be able to give that special ewe in their life a church wedding in the forseeable future.

In the manosphere content on youtube, they regularly site that in the US divorces are initiated 70% of the time by females, and if she's college educated, it's 90% of the time. I can't see the average lesbian marriage lasting for long.

Children raised by single mothers do much worse than those raised by two parents. I think undermining marriage harms the welfare of children. I fear short duration gay marriages will encourage hetero marriages where there are children to be ended earlier.

Perhaps it doesn't matter as marriage appears to be dying anyway. Rampant contemporary female hypergamy in the US and similar countries means way fewer females are now prepared to settle for a male when they hit their 30s. They just won't lower their standards and appear to be opting for a life without a husband and children.

Pooling financial resources, which is the main reason same sex couples want to get married.
