Anyone remember or used to drink in the old Billabong bar on Lamai Beach main road in Koh Samui?
Small easy going bar run by a couple of Brits and an Aussie.
I heard it got knocked down.

Yes, remember it very well. I think I've still got a bill in there actually.Originally Posted by Chittychangchang

I remember the place.
On the main road through Lamai, with a block of girly bars behind it.
Watched the England - Australia rugby world cup final there with one other Englishman and a million drunken Aussies.
No idea if it's still there though.
I was there a year ago and it was just an empty space. I thinks Squib's Camel Toe near there has shut down too.
I met my missus in one of those round bars behind the Billabong 10 years ago.
Still together.
Anyone ever stay at White Sand on the beach towards Grandfather Rock?
Bulldozed it. Someone next door told me that old Nui had died and her daughter Bewty must have sold out. Shame about that.
I used to do some work for Peter (the Aussie, now in Irian Jaya, Indonesia).
It was still there when I went to Samui in January 2013. I sat under a knackered TV by the bar area near the entrance.
Yep, gone.
There is now a restaurant there.
I was the last resident at the Beach Resort next door to White Sands.Originally Posted by tdar

Anybody remember Charlie Hut 1 on Chaweang beach? Used to be 50 baht, back in errrrm, 1992? then across the rickety wooden bridge to the Reggie bar for a few hours drinking, then back across the bridge and around to the main group of bars (was also close to the only atm in miles) where you could go to the Green Mango (?) and get 3 big bottles of Change for 100 baht from some bloke who used to push his cart through the club. Then about 3 or 4 amh go back to errrm, past Charlie Hut then about another 50m (?) on the right to some club that was open til 7am; cn't remember the name of the place. Those were the days.. Lamai was but a piss in the sand back then.
Cycling should be banned!!!

I only stopped off at Lamai once , to visit some rock formation that resembles a couple of pieces of genitalia.
I thought that's nice of the island to pay homage to 2 guys who strimmed the west edge,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^WITHNALLL that is !!!

^^ there was but a single shack and an old homeless woman in Lamai when I took the wrong road and passed through the area.
^ as I left Chaweng and asked for directions to Lamai, I was told to keep driving until you see old people
She was pretty though.Originally Posted by Bettyboo
One memorable night springs to mind back in 2003.
We had been on the lash all day playing beach cricket, Australia vs England(Poms won off course).
We then swarmed the good old Billabong bar en mass singing the bithday song of an Aussie biker who turned 34, the song went like this.."dirty whore, dirty whore, dirty whore....all night. Then it was chat up time for anyone walking past the bar. The most common line was " how do you fancy me ripping you a new arsehole?"
The strip cleared pretty quickly and became like a ghost town except for the ominous presence of a gang of Thai males further down the strip discussing plans to nobble us.
The party celebrations continued unabated to the "song" people where mooning and dropping E's. necking shots and discussing all sorts of crap from the best boot knife to carry too blowing up a rival bikers Harley.
Ee by gum halcyon times indeed.
I went to the Billabong in Bhoput for Sunday lunch about 10 years ago.
No, it was the guy from the Isle of Man's pub there. But we did go to the Billabong for drinks.
Was that the one who also sold newspapers and magazines and would advertise his merchandise in one elongated unintelligible sentence at 130 decibel?Originally Posted by Bettyboo

Why don't youse lot fuck off and start your own "who remembers" thread?
Anybody who claims to have been to both Chaweang Beehatch and Lamai is full of shit or a part-timer.
The only food on sale at the Billabong was a moldy packet of beef Golden Wonder priced at 100 baht and kept in a locked glass safe behind the bar.
If one felt the need to eat there was always the bbq stall outside the 7/11 where 3 chicken kebabs could be obtained for 90 baht. The two minute walk was a tad inconvenient and disrupted the precious drinking time.
