This Years Best Thread Competition
We got 10 threads and you can vote for as many as you like just the one time, ie on the poll you can check as many boxes as you like and then click submit.
So which thread do you think is the best this year?
This poll will be open for a month and we will be begging for a prize to give to the winner from sponsors, if the worst comes to the worst the prize will be a short time down at Soi Yodsak, but maybe we will get lucky and the prize could be a free scuba dive or snorkelling trip, or maybe a couple of days at a nice resort.
I should add that this is in no particular order and I haven't put the crappiest one first, anyway first up we have NickA learning to carve wood.
Actually towards the end of the thread he got real good at it, well apart from the elephants head.

Just chopped a tree down and thought it'd be food to do something creative with the wood, 'cos I'm a poof, like.
Anyway, not being very good at these things, I thought I'd start with something simple, so i chopped it up into little stools for me kids (don't know how I got kids, being a poof 'en all). To make 'em nice I thought I'd do a little carving on each one. So I bought a shitty set of carving tools for 100 baht from homepro and made this...

Surasaks Pub and Grill, you want to see nice food then this is the thread for you.
This thread has been running for a long time now and is full of fattening pictures of delicious food.

From time to time I'll post some stuff I cook. Right now it's roast pork, roast chicken Thai style, and, corned beef.
The roast pork is homemade using home grown thyme, salt, pepper, home grown dehydrated onions, home grown garlic using a boneless pork loin and roasted until the inside reaches about 150 degrees / 65 degrees C.
The roasted chicken uses a Thai spice packet purchased at a local Asian supermarket and roasted for about 1-1/2 hours in an oven until golden brown (marinated for about 1 hour prior to cooking). I really wish I had a charcoal stove to get more of the real flavor here, and, the chickens here in the states are really almost too big for doing this.
The corned beef is home made using beef brisket corned for 3 weeks in the frig then slowly simmered in wine for about 3 hours. The wine gives the meat a slightly fruity flavor and makes it more tender, IMHO, than salt water.

Next up we have njdesis trip to Cambodia with a Thai Lady. Nightmare or a love trip.
Quote:
Walking out of the restaurant to get a moto, some Khmer men start saying "hey sexy lady" to my g/f. She seems to shutdown at this point. We return to the hotel and she takes a shower, puts on Thai TV, tucks herself in, and glares at me when I try to speak. I know when to leave her alone, so I am off to do some exploring. Next part, Losing a debate on the effectiveness of supply side vs Keynesian economics with my moto-op...

stroller tells us about Nan Province and shows us around. Does he really eat insects?
Quote:
It makes a pleasant day out or a boozy overnight stay, karaoke, a variety of Thai dishes with heavy emphasis on fresh local fish and the usual Thai beers and liquors. You may do your own fishing, a bamboo rod is 10bt, great fun for the kids.
The last 10km across the hills are windy, and steep, about as much as one could comfortably do on a rented scooter. There's a car-ferry between the 2 provinces in operation.

Thetyim spends 3 days in Kam Pong near Chiang Mai. One day they will have electric.
Quote:
I recently went to Ban Mae KamPong for a 3 day visit.
KamPong is only 50km from Chiang Mai but is very different from the city.
It lies in a remote valley at an altitude of 1300m and has a population of 300 people.
The village is stretched out along the edge of the stream that flows through the valley .
The altitude makes it much cooler, in fact they only have two seasons, cool & wet.

buadhais around the world trip is an ongoing thread so many of the newer members have followed this.

Unfortunately, my desire to quickly depart for Asia was thwarted. It was mid-March and the overland trip did not leave until May. I guess I had a hankering for some clotted cream and a hike across Dartmoor so I headed out for Devon.
I ended up staying at this small guesthouse called Brock Park just on the outskirts of the town of
Chagford:
