The Miss America beauty pageant is scrapping its swimwear segment and will no longer judge competitors
on physical appearance.

The evening gown section is also being axed, with contestants asked to wear something that makes them feel good and
expresses their personal style instead.

Former winner Gretchen Carlson broke the news on ABC's Good Morning America.
"We will no longer judge our candidates on their outwards, physical appearance. That's huge," she said.

"We are no longer a pageant," said Carlson, the first former Miss America to be named chair of the board
of trustees of the Miss America organisation.

"We are a competition."

Instead of the swimming costume segment, there will be interviews with the contenders, who will be asked
about their passion, intelligence and understanding of the Miss America role. :chitown:

It's a throwback to the days when you'd make sure you'd get to watch programmes like 'The Sweeney' because it was 'hard hitting', 'realistic' and they'd throw in a five second glimpse of a decent pair of knockers just to make sure you watched the entire series.

In the UK MInder is shown in the afternoons. The first two series' were 'hard hitting' and featured a few breasts. ITV4 are really crap at editing, and a few side shots got left in

I just saw a BBC interview with a previous Miss America, who shocked the Beeb female presenter by basically saying that the bikini section of the competition should stay, because the overall competition included judgement on health and fitness, and a lard-bucket could hardly claim to be healthy and fit.

The Beeb PC presenter tried to get her to condemn the bikini section, but ol Miss America was having none of it.
