Wheels falling off

I got drunk last night.

First time in a long time.

Didn't mean to. I was out with the Koreans at my school for a trip away.

I don't mind sipping a little soju or bekseju to be polite at the table when people toast or want to pour me a drink. More often than not I just have water or Sprite poured.

Not sure what happened last night but a couple of sips here and there and I started to feel the buzz again. A few more sips and I was happy. Then before I knew it had pounded a couple of bottles of soju and drank several mugs of beer.

I ended up on the beach with my co-teacher and my missus pounding beer after beer. I figured that if I had broken the no drinking rule I might as well drink for all I was worth since it wouldn't be happening again.

Not sure where another four teachers came from (including Mr Han) but I think they were sent to rescue my co-t from me (even though it was her idea) she wasn't having any of it and wanted to stay up until sunrise. We eventually gave in around 330am where we ended up at the wrong hotel.

So how do I feel about it.

I'm sad that I broke my sobriety. I know that I am not going to start drinking again, I will have to completely refuse all alcohol from now on to make sure that doesnt happen again. The hangover today wasn't worth the effort I put into getting it in the first place.
I have no off switch.

I find just thinking about hangovers is enough to make me stop drinking ever again

i cant drink socially. its one of the reasons i havnt already gone to korea.

I had a couple of birthdays over there, drinking that Korean White Horse scotch,, damn that awful shit, but a good time was had by all, even the ones that fell out thru the window, fell on the mamasans coffee table and made toothpicks out of it and the one that fell down the stairs.Don't know why them cvnts didn't buy american bootleg booze tho, cause them days Korean shit was damn near unpotable.

Glad I don't drink it no more, never did get around to actually quitting, just for 25 years I ain't had to have a drink.
Well maybe I will some day again. Hope it is as much fun as it used to be at one time.

Breaking the no-drink rule is occasionally is common as you know.

And since you didn't enjoy the day after and the feeling, it's likely a confirmation that you're not into drinking anymore.

for sure, the GIs used to get it at a PX and then sell it to a mamasan and it was all out of bond, but even at street prices was cheap compared to that which could be bought in an American liquor store in the states.:(

Don't get down on yourself! Look upon it as proof and confirmation that one or two becomes 10 or 20. You're extra-sure now of what happens :)

This can be a good thread about drinking, and stopping and/or re-starting drinking. I remember the other thread started by a poster here that turned out to be a good discussion among us about drinking, why we drink, good and bad experiences with the drink, and deciding to reduce or stop imbibbing.

Recently, I have seemed to have lost the desire for drinking, and after 2 beers, just stop because of boredom with it. I've lost little (not a lot) off of the waistline because of it, so far.

As I get older, it doesn't seem to be as entertaining as it used to be.

Since returning to Canada, I've lost interest, too. Not nearly as fun as Bangkok, which I must say was a fun town to get drunk in! Here, going down to the local "micro-brewery" and getting drunk is pointless. And boring.

Can't imagine life without my few beers of an evening, but in the back of my mind I realise I should probably quit it. I am a dad now as well.

I do look forward to those cold ones though

Is it difficult to quit? I probably haven't had a day off for 10 years. Never drink spirits only beer. Never miss work because of it, but in the back of my mind I feel maybe a change is due

My alcohol/ drug use has been creaping up again. Its like a serpent. :(

taking a bit of drugs like drinking is ok, we all need it, and it gets worse as you get older

Mine is not. The beer helps.

Used to think that meself, but when a problem hit, get drunk, then fuk it up so bad that it took a quart of whiskey to fix that one, then it just got worse,, kinda like wiping your ass on a hoop.:(

I've cut out the beer almost completely. But about 2 hours before bed, I have a light bourbon (Jim Beam) with water. I have about 3 of these. Then I get tired and get horizontal.

I've got this brain that cranks on full speed 24/7. Not that it's doing anything particularly useful, but I've never been able to shut it off. As I kid I was put to bed at 8 or 9, but never managed to sleep until midnight or later. When I became an adult and discovered alcohol it was a great relief. Finally a legal, easily available and effective way to turn my brain off.

I don't drink during the day and I don't like getting drunk. But I look at the four beers that put me to sleep every night as separate and distinct from whatever social drinking I do. I enjoy a beer with some evening meals. If I'm with friends who drink, I'll join in.

Please don't tell me that if I sobered up I'd be able to sleep. I was sober the first 20 years of my life and it didn't work!

I don't want to sound voodoo new age, but meditation has really helped me, BH. No religion, just learning how to calm your mind by yourself.

I'm game to try, but for me meditation is like reading poetry. After about 15 seconds my mind races off to something it figures is more important.

I have the same problem and I used to have to get swacked before I could sleep.
But you can learn to control that too.
If someone wants to drink, and it doesn't cause a problem in their life, then drink.
But to say that because I drink that everyone should is not correct, I know it is the way for people to try to say that it is right for some, if I drink and all my friends do the same, then I have no problem, but if I drink and they don't, then what?
