My opinion on flag burning is: it is free speech and espression and anything should be able to be done with it.
The politicians have tried to start up Amendments, but it's always died.
People should realize one thing I think is very sacred about the U.S. is that you can burn the flag and not be beaten, killed, nor imprisoned.
It's damaging of property or worse, when it's someone else's flag, though.

Actually the reason why I started this thread is because of the article below from Boston. This did involve taking and ruining other people's property so I didn't include in the OP.

Flag burning and flag desecrating goes back a few decades (and probably more)
During the VN war era people (mostly students) would put a patch of the flag on their bum (of their jeans) and therefore you were sitting on the flag.
Why is burning a flag a freedom of speech issue? Surely it's freedom of expression, diiferent ball game?

I think they tried to pass it as another amendment to the US constitution, not sure if it failed though

The "flag" represents many different things to different individuals.
To some, it represents hegemony.
To some, it represents opportunity.
To some, it represents imperialism.
To some, it represents, the Constitution & Bill of Rights.
To some, it represents, ideals.
To some, it represents acts - both good & bad, and/or both.
The "flag" shouldn't represent anything.
The entire concept of nation-state flags, is too promote nationalism and the interests of the government of that particular nation-state.
Flag worship appeals to the dummies.
Ideas, ideals, and actions, should be more important, IMO.
This is why, what the U.S. flag represents, is embarrassing.
