Pool in Thailand. Playing dirty and the rules.

I have been playing pool at Gullivers for a few nights. There seems to be allot of decent players so its fun.

Anyway, I held the table for a few rounds. I played these 2 Frenchmen that both got close to beating me. They where good and so was the previous player but they where bitching at me for taking too long to shoot.

If I am playing a shark I usually will try a more difficult shot or shoot lighter if it means that I leave the other player with a shitty chance. Is that considered dirty ?

Also, this one douche that took the table from me, banked the 8 ball off of one of my balls without calling it. I assumed he lost but he figured he won. Everyone just assumed he won but it looked like total bullshit to me. He lost, he would have had to call it off of my ball to get the win. I didnt want to make a big deal out of it so i left.

Then the next day, i ended up playing the same asshole. I broke and potted a solid ball but the striped balls on the table where placed better then the solids. I aimed up a stripe and the asshole told me that i had to shoot solid because that is what i potted. I told him that it is still an open table but he got in a big huff and said that in Thailand, that is not the rule.....?????

has anyone heard that before ? i beat him that time but still...

There are the rules that the rest of the world plays, then there are whatever you lot play in North America. I always refuse to play pool with Americans saves the hassle of the inevitable arguements with assholes who believe that the house rules that suit everyone else and no one else has a problem with should be changed just for them.

what is your take on the rules in question ?

I always though it was common that you where not allowed to bank the 8 off of other balls without calling it and that its an open table no matter what happens after the break.

You can do what the fuck you like, we in the rest of the world don't 'call' our shots we just play. It is only in North America where you feel the need to tell others what shot you are going to play. If you hit your object ball first doesn't matter how many cushions it comes off or how many other balls it hits and if any of your object balls should drop in the pocket it is a legal shot whether ot not i meant it or could be arsed to tell you about it before hand.

OP is it due to your outrageously large penis ?

Gulliver's have their own set of rules. There's a board on the wall that explains their crap. Here's a few of their crappy rules.

You can bank off balls without calling it.

If you miss your pocket but your ball ends up in a different pocket than what you intended, it counts that you potted it and you can carry on playing.

Two shots on foul.

You don't need to have any ball touch a cushion before or after a shot. (Meaning you can play your dirty "roll the white slowly behind another ball" shots)

If the whites been pocketed then the player restarting must play forwards from behind the line, even if they are on the 8 ball which is also behind the line and not reachable without you banking off a cushion.

Gulliver's is a shitty place to play pool. The tables are crap, the rules stink and the skanky girls get the arse when you beat them.


Most of the rest of Bangkok have started playing 'World Rules'. Ball in hand, a ball must touch a rail during play, call you 8 ball shot and agree with the other person before you start if your gonna call all of the shots or not.

edit: oh, and intentional snookers are perfectly acceptable as long as something connected with a rail. Except in Gulliver's, where they will want to beat you up.:)

These are sometimes posted in the place.
I usually just discuss it with the person I'm playing.
And it is casual, but clear. No big deal, no money, etc.
Forget the revolving rules regarding countries and nationalities.
And forget fcking google and Webster's.
It's not really about pool anyway, is it?
If you can't sort it out before you play, then you take what you get/give.
It's about gettin' off your ass and moving, and having a conversation first...
Then you kick his/her ass by running the table!
I usually introduce myself right away and offer my hand.
Then we can have a sporting game.
Any barmaid/manager can tell you the rules of the house if y'all wanna get technical.

Kind of like golf.

Agreed, but you can read through any of the different styles of international rules. English, American, Austrailian, World etc etc... But in every set there is one common rule. And that's the touching a rail rule. Gulliver's is the only place I can think of that doesn't play that rule. It's bloody annoying.

i actually think ball in hand is a gay rule, epecially if it is talented players.

Gullivers is "call on the 8" but the asshole called the pocket without saying it was going to go off of one of my balls. I think this duche knew it but was not honest

im ok, not a shark but i love playing sharks dirty and beating them. some of them notice and some dont
