Swimming pool costs?

Good afternoon, i am wondering if anyone can help me with the costing towards a swimming pool.

The swimming pool is going to be purely for swimming lengths and so does not need to be necessarily deeper one end, i am looking for dimensions of something like 4 meters width by 12/16 meters in length, i am unsure of depth so any recommendations would be helpful?

i would either like a break down of cost, a total cost and/or some suggestions to the best type of swimming pool......it will be covered by a roof top but open at all sides!

15,000baht per meter would be pretty cheap these days for a swimming pool.

I wouldn't recommend building your own for a first timer, it is a bit more complex than the thread suggests, also the whole of the swimming pool is structural, one little mistake can end up being very costly.

when you say 15000 badt per meter i presume you mean m2 and this is for it to be completely finished - ready to swim???????

does it make it any less expensive by not going so deep and keeping a basic rectangular shape or not?

what are the costs of maintaining the different types of pool?

no i wouldnt build it myself, thats just inconceivable .................. so what about a natural swimming pool, salt water, uv etc??????????

Yep, although that figure maybe a bit low considering how the price of steel has gone up over the last year or 2.

It does but not by a lot, if your going to have a swimming pool you might aswell have a nice looking one.

Salt water pools seem to be the fad and seem to work ok, they are about as salty as a tear drop.

thanks for the advice DD.....however im unsure of how you can make a swimming pool purely for swimming lengths look better ????, other then build it to a high clean looking standard of quality!

however if i decide to go ahead it will be housed under its own wood sala roof which i hope would give it some feature and quality to the look of it overall!!!!!!!

Salt water as you say is a fad, and ive hard that it can ruin your filter and pump parts, so would this really be better then spending money on uv cleaning etc?

You will still need filtering and cleaning whether salt water or fresh, can't imagine the salt water makes much difference on pump life and won't make any difference on your filter, your pump has to turn the whole pool over every 24 hours so they don't get much resting and rusting time :)

and generally isnt cheaper then chlorine pools year on year, but that it is, if kept to a desired ph level better on your skin and eyes?????????????

Secondly on natural pools, it says they provide you with a shallow biological cleaning system and a deep swimming area, this results in no chemicals being used but a natural cycle of cleaning with just a few mechanical parts. Do you believe something like this to be functional in somewhere like thailand????

Grouting doesn't last forever so has to be considered as part of the upkeep of a swimming pool.

I think uv filters start from 150,000baht :(

I think the first rules of swimming pool pricing is that if you have to ask then you cant afford it:)

no, that just means that if someone tells me a price, and i do some research and i find that to not be a very good price or indeed a good price. then for that inital costing im more knowledgeable and in understanding about its overall cost within the market im buying. Most people that have money do so because they are good with money ie; effecient etc, not reckless with it and at the whim of a salesman pays an inflated price!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think if i can build a house and afford that and like swimming and want to do it everyday, then the cost is irrelevant in that aspect, but i would still want to know how much regardless the cost of it is, so as to get the best price service or combo.

That is correct for "biological pools". You should definetely spend time reading more topics, becaused this has been discussed already, the outcome being that quite a few people would love to have it, but that it hadn't yet been seriously tried in LOS, as far as thread contributors remembered.

If you want to go that direction, I'd be happy to support. Overall cost is much higher than a "traditonal pool" though.

sun tzu - i read that by definition of a natural pool being successful it has to be of a greater depth then a normal pool would, so i presume this is where the extra cost comes in - so the foundation and build would be of greater cost!

however the principal fact of using plants and micro organisms to clean the water would surly mean no chemicals and no machine parts to replace apart from the pump to circulate water, is this true or am i simplifying matters?

I know this is an old thread, however, I am interested in a natural swimming pool and have been researching the subject a lot lately. Have you built one? Hi all, I'm new on this forum. I too am interested in the bio swimming pond approach. Seen some old quarries up here that were perfectly clear, the next one over being a murky pit, wish I knew why. I think your correct about needing to be deep to maintain a cooler body of water, at least in our hotter months. Would it be best to clay line or butyl, seen too many concrete ponds leak. There is a series of utube videos called 'Roman rock pools', in these the liner is between a weak cement mix and an interior finish of faux rock. In one the builder is beating the pool with a club hammer to show its strength. Its just that I don't like the look of a liner, all those wrinkles. I'd be happy to share any info, Cheers

I knew a chap up this way that built his own for less then 70k...not sure you can actually still dive in and complete a lengths backstroke, mind..but it's doable..with the correct materials..

Hi im back, i havent built anything yet. Im looking at just getting a swimmers pools long and thin, enough to do lengths. Does anyone have anything to add about magna pools?

A natural pool sounds great, they look nice too, but i worry about it as part of the reason for the pool as well as other high cost features will be for a mini guesthouse. So i think if i can make it more likely that someone will use it the better. What method did you use on your pool Dr.A and do you recommend the company you used?
