Texas for most of my time though (I have family in Dallas).

The people are brilliantly friendly. I love the place.

I can literally see it when I look out my window, and cross the border once or twice a week to play golf when the weather is good. My father lives in the States too, and have been many times to visit him.
They are some of the friendliest in the world, regardless of their personal political views. They can be quite naive and ignorant to the goings on outside their borders though. Not necessarily as bad as some other countries, but with much more consequences to the rest of the world.

I've visited the USA, work related, but not since 9/11. That's over 20 years ago, so no idea how it has changed.
As pointed out, there's a big difference between the states. When I was in the Southern States (Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina) the knowledge and attitude of people was a lot different to when I was in California. The only Central state I visited was Minnesota, when I worked in Minneapolis for a while. That was different again with a large Asian population where I was residing.
The first time I visited the USA, I hated it, I grew to love it on subsequent visits, once I realised that they were foreigners speaking a common language.

Yes, I have been.
The states is probably one of the most interesting and welcoming countries I've ever travelled to. Spent 6 months there but that was about 30.years ago. Fantastic people. Yes some are a bit insular and naive ?.most of my American mates are all ex military and have seen the world. Done there 20 years and retired on a pretty decent pension.
I wouldn't necessarily say the division is between Red States and Blue States, it's much more between rural and urban. Red States are just more rural. Where I cross into Washington state it is mostly rural and there are plenty of Trump flags and MAGA hats and bumper stickers, even though it's a Blue state. Even in California, Trump got nearly 40% of the vote.
Used to cross into Washington state and load the ole Winnebago up with lucky lager. Shit beer but it was cheaper than molson and back then I was picking apples in the okanagon with a bunch of hindus. Good memories
