    Some piccies...koh hai

A few pics inbetween malaysia and krabi reports.

Like to see if anyone thinks they are ok or not. I know several problems with a few of them, but I still like them all and would love to know how to fix the problem in the future.

Mostly though, I would just like some greens with comments saying I am better than BobsKnob.

All these were taken from Koh Hai beach except for the boat one, that was off one of the other islands nearby.

fantastic, but some look fake. Could just be my innate cynicism though. I don't like "altered" photos

I got 3 cameras now.....learning with the new cannon 450 but only really started to play with it when we got to Pooket and Koh Hai.

Got a little snap happy cannon digital and a sanyo waterproof camera that takes remarkable photos considering it is mainly a video.

Throw half away, not because they are no good, but because they are too similar to the others. Crop the first one to put the closest boat on a third.
Clone the three highlights out of the l/h side of the second, they are too distracting. While you are at it, crop the r/h side to remove the speedboat.
Crop the third to remove the l/h quarter, clone out or crop the intrusive leaf on the r/h side. Straighten the horizon.
    Throw the 4th away.
The fifth has all the element of a great shot but you blew it. The r/h quarter is a great picture on its own, keeping the siluette of the boat within the hilight on the water and the tree nicely fills the sky, but there is too much of a gap between the left hand siluetted island and the boat, it needed a change in viewpoint to place the elements closer together.
    Throw away 6, 7, 8
Crop 9 just behind the propeller on the l/h side. think it needs straightening slightly as well.

Very good effort though, have a green.

    ^ See, that's what I don't get.

You take a photo. It is what it is. If you then start chopping and changing it it's no longer what it was.

It's not a photographic reproduction of a scene but an interpretation.

So is that photography or art or just technological cheating.

    I don't know, just asking.

    Fair comment.

When is it no longer a photographic reproduction of the scene?

    Art and science,

Movies, as in movies with actors vs advanced cartoons.

    I don't know.

Thanks for the comments....Bigred.....strueth, but nice to get the feedback.

Why don't you like 6, 7 and 8. I love the 2 sunrise pics....they are all sunrise but those 2 in particular. It was the last morning on the island and every morning I had been thinking...yep gotta get up and do the sunrise....every morning woke up and it was bright light. This last morning my conscience got the better of me and woke me up at the crack of dawn....my wifes name is not Dawn.

JJ...your favourite pic and most of them actually are not photoshopped....they are cropped to the panoramic view, but that is it.

The boat one I have in full size and it is stunning in its original size...the black sea and some black storm clouds above the boat and the horizon to sky rain shower coming in from the left and then this lone single boat just anchoring to go diving.

I was amazed by that shot when I saw it back home on the puter myself.

Bigred...everyone has a different 'outlook' I guess, where as some of your cropping points I agree with, some I do not as 'I' like them like that. In particular the boat and sunrise shot...I like the long panoramic look to it. And cropping the other boat shot behind the prop...then you hide the rain storm coming in and that to me makes the shot....the little boat in the middle of the black all around and its centred in the middle of it all.

I shall be putting up some more, both in the reports and I might duplicate them here in the photo section for comments as I love to hear them.

I only just bought the cannon 450d prior to this trip and specifically for it, so experimenting was happening a lot and as I know fcuk all about taking pics...it was a steep experimental curve. But I enjoyed it and got what I think is some nice pics....nice enough to put on my wall....at least until I get better and some nicer ones come along.

    Cheers.

    Not bad for an idiot.

You still owe me 6 beers for the pics you bought off me.

Seriously, I do love the boat pic, post the uncropped version, I wanna see the sky you talked about.
