I think there are some oxygen, nitrogen and CO2 molecules just a few centimetres in front of the orchid that are in focus.

What Orchid??????????????????????????????
The top most petal is completely in focus, I had it on a macro setting so that the background is deliberately OUT of focus!

KW - here's what a flower looks like when it's in focus.
And yes, Nooners, all my own handiwork. The picture, that is.
Found thia unusual flower attached to a tree this week.
Have done nothing to it.
If you approve I will attempt a picture thread this week.
Your suggestion is Officially Approved.
Wats 'n temples, that sort of thing
Sometimes when you adjust the levels the 50% grey setting needs to also be moved a bit. Looks like that happened in your shot.Originally Posted by Lady Hawk

cheers for the tips Bustac !!
always eager to learn more little tips from Photoshop !! - the program is Mammoth !!
here's an early attempt - was always stoked with this fish, just not the pic. Maybe a little over-exposed -0 I had to tinker with the colour/contrast to compensate; but a can of worms has been opened !!

^ I prefer the original. The fish is supposed to be the subject, not the ugly fekker holding it!
you could just use the magnetic lasso around the fish to select that, then select inverse. Then just adjust the background ... this was a quick fiddle with levels, shadow/highlights and brightness/contrast.

For those that don't have or don't want to lay out the cash for Photoshop ( I know readily available here for 150Thb) Adobe has a stripped down version that is pretty good for the average photo touch-up - Photoshop Elements, a nice program that doesn't hog all the resources that the big boy does.
Using the automatic functions you can get the same effects on 'popping' your photos. You don't have quite as much control but will suffice for the average photographer.
You'll need to poke around the menu a little but most of it is there but not quite as originally described by bustak.

Ive been looking round the interwebs for info on how to make my pix look better and come across one or 2 tips, some were OK but I wanted them to POP more. Low and behold theres a thread on TD to do it so I had a crack with Bustaks method rather than the web others and the results are getting more towards what I was aiming for.
original
POP'd
Is there any reason why this hasnt been made sticky?

That pic was in the contest and therefore broke the rules about not having been posted on here before.....
