Turns out it was a 16 year old ifugao kid with a rifle he stole from the cafgu.

Had a 16 yr old Ifugao or Igorot kid as a guide in one of my hikes up north. (Ifugao & Igorot are indigenous groups.) The other guide was his dad. We were ~12 in our party so had 2 guides, one at front & 1 sweeper. Those people are mountain goats!

Btw, CAFGU = Citizens Armed Forces Guerilla Unit; they were quite active during the late 80s to 90s

@backspin - if you're up for some adventure & jungle trekking, I saw on the map that there's Paadjao falls, Busay falls and Basud hidden falls. You could probably hire a guide once you get near the area.

Edit: if your phone is not locked & you have space for another SIM card, you can buy a prepaid SIM card at one of the phone stores in town. Bring your passport bcos you'll need it for SIM registration. You can load it up with P500 and can have enough data for a week - ask the seller to help you subscribe to a prepaid data plan. Ask which signal is better in your area, whether Globe or Smart.

I turned up in Manila to start in didipio a day or 2 later. The night I arrived I went bar hopping in makati and met the exploration manager the next day , we went to there office to familiarise and have a bullshit about my role. That afternoon we heard the geo was dead and I was put on hold for a couple of days while they figured shit out. Turns out I got sent to Santiago city then claveria in northern Luzon to do something totally different , then Mindanao I never did get to the didipio project but to be honest I reckon that ifugao dude done me a solid. That went on for nearly 2 years I couldn't get the smile of my dial but then came the global financial crisis in 97. And all of us expats got told the party was over. Ah well that's how it goes. It was right in the area where i was swimming. I seen it an hour earlier and just let it be. I gave it it's chance to just bugger off. Later on, i seen a life guard and asked him. He said some sting and just be careful. What kind of advice is that ? Be careful. I did the right thing

Many (or maybe most?) of the jellyfish in PH do sting. When my friends and I went to Hundred Islands (up north in Pangasinan province), we were alighting from our boat when one of my girl-friends started shrieking. Turned out that a jellyfish had wrapped itself around her foot. She wore flip-flops, so the jellyfish was able to cover a lot of surface area. One of the boatmen had vinegar and applied it to her foot. It stung and for the rest of our vacay, the rashes from the jellyfish could be seen.

@backspin - if ever you'll travel to tourist spots in Luzon this week or until Monday, make a reservation. It's peak season & you wouldn't want to arrive at the place, tired from the drive/ ride and have to go door to door because there's no vacancy. After Monday, most locals will be back at their jobs so you can wing it if you wish to.

Jellyfish are a bastard ..my mate Roy had a beard like the zz top dude and was in the habit of having a swim every morning in pundaquit where he lived and got one wrapped around his face and all tangled up in his beard

I had a blue bottle wrap it's tail around my ankle in the surf of Coodgie beach in Sydney.
There were quite a few victims that day.

The piss soothed the sting and wish I only had a fuller bladder as this attractive Swedish backpacker got stung on the chest and was literally begging me to hose her down.
