    Suttangrak Pattaya Restaurant

Well this place suprisingly enough is actually in Jomtien, it is right down the end of Jomtien beach road, perhaps Pattaya was easier to spell.

Now this was on Saturday we were there and the place was full of classy Bangkok Thais wearing shirts and shoes and things in their ears for their telephones, some of the ear pieces had flashing neon lights in them aswell which was quite tasteful, alas I am not important nor classy enough to warrant a flashy ear piece with nice blue neon lights in it, Ok I admit they looked right prats, but hell if they are happy who am I to criticise these fokwitts.

Anyway this is a Thai seafood place and it is done out quite nice, wooden decking all over the place and big hardwood tables each with a lantern

What was a first for me was that they had wheel chair car parking in their parking lot.

Although how well wheel chairs move about on wooden decking I have no idea.

As you can see from this menu picture this place aint the sort of place my staff frequent, actually it aint the sort of place I would normally frequent, those sort of prices I could hit the Mexican restaurants, but as they say you get what you pay for

They had a main band that played inside, well I suppose band aint the word as they were duet, these guys done Thai songs, then the main guy came on, now this farang guy was pretty damn good, he must have been about 50 years old and a farang guy, he went up to the big tables of Thais and basically sang to them and played guitar, the amazing bit was he sang Thai songs and English songs, yep the guy had talent, but then things got worrying, now remember we are in a restaurant with about 100 Thai customers, he is now at a table with about 10 Thai guys sitting there and does an English number, they all applaud him when he finished cos he was a good singer, this is when he started shouting "THASKIN OUT, THASKIN OUT", now I was quite suprised how well this went down as I assumed that some of them might like giving the farang a good hiding, luckily it seemed that most of the Thais either had no interest in politics or hated Thaskin, but I got to admit I did think it would kick off

I am a bit vague on the food now due to the food pictures turning out shite, this one was the prawns in garlic, and I mean tonnes of garlic, all the food was good though even if you had to pull the legs and heads off for yourself, well obviously I didn't but my galfriend did, why do you think I keep her in the luxury she is not accustomed to

the old pad kappow with Prawns

    spicey prawn salad

And my main dish where I kept asking if the prawns were properly cooked and they kept saying yes, then when I got down to the last couple my galfriend mentioned that they could have done with a bit longer cooking, yes I imagined spending the next day pissing out of my arse but it all seemed to be ok thank God

Anyway this is a nice place to take a bird, a Thai one that is, as the only group of farangs I saw go in there walked out without ordering so I assume there are language difficulties, the whole lot came to about 900baht for the 3 of us, I have to admit for having as good food before in a lot cheaper restaurants but they weren't as nice as this one and didn't have a crazy farang singer

There's Suttangrak restaurant in Laemchabang also. Nice view and good food too.

And yes, cheaper. I guess, they have the same owner.

I may nick the pics for my avatar, perfect size. I'm eating a ham sandwich and looking at undersized food pics. Now how am I supposed to fantasize about prawns in garlic?

I am the singer in Suttangrak

I am the farang singer in Suttangrak.
I appreciate your posting and your compliments to me and the restaurant. Thank you.

However, I would like to make one critical correction. I never ever....and never would...shout anything like :"Thaksin out!"....not even once...much less repeatedly. As you mentioned this is a place full of Thai hi-so people. I stay totally out of anything political even if the customers themselves bring up the subject.
Any such politicking in Suttangrak could only harm the business and reputation. In your story, for example, the people at the next table may have been big Thaksin supporters (for all I know) and would vow never to come again....tell their friends etc.

I am a foreigner/guest in Thailand, cannot vote and have no political influence/power whatsoever. It would serve me no purpose to take sides in any political discourse here. It could only hurt me in fact, if someone were to see this thread. It certainly could do me no good. I therefore keep my mouth shut on Thai politics.

I do not doubt the writer's veracity of what he may think he heard. But I assure you I never said any such thing in Suttangrak and never would. A retraction of that part of your commentary would be appreciated. My position in Suttangrak is singer/entertainer and I keep it that way.
    Thanks so much.
