I was talking with Peterpan last week, over a few beers, and he put it something like this.
Many Thais derive no greater pleasure than to have gotten over on somebody. They will go to great lengths to weasel around trying to squeeze every lie and halftruth into a deal so they can feel clever. It's far more gratifying than integrity and a honest deal.
I agree.
Dinging bells, flashing lights, air horns, waving flags!
Sounds like a typical Thai, "I've got loads of money" gimmick.
Barge poles and smelly, rotton things come to mind.
No, they were selling the house because they needed the money. I could probably have been a bit more ruthless and squeezed him on the price and got him down by a large amount, as I'm pretty sure he was desperate.Originally Posted by Travelmate
If he were chinese (or german) he would have taken advantage of that desperation. Too soft that NickA.
the chinese tend to fukk each other for not doing things more aggressively. Hence had to ask. Besides NickA is kinda chinese sounding if you say it real quick....
Well it seems things are changing, they are now going to buy the land and pay the whole lot within 30 days, I will believe it when the dosh is in my sweaty hands
No strings attached -- like hotel bills and T-bone dinners?
Remember that thread the other day about thais not inventing anything? well i reckon they invented the "empty promise".
Well I aint rushing out ordering the special paint job for my car or anything just yet, but hell, if they go thru with it it could change my attitude that all Thais are bullshitters to most Thais are bullshitters.
^Fok that, I aint taking the rear spoiler off of it, my girlfriend uses that to put the beef on that she is sun drying.
When land is either bought or sold here it is customery to meet the other party in the land office-check the original chanote to ensure there are no charges registered against the land then and only them the money is handed over and the chanote signed.
Any other way and for sure you will be ripped off.
I always make sure than anyone i deal with in busines here--Thai or farang ---is made well aware of the consequences of trying to fock me over! ( and i never mean solicitors)
Ermm, yes, I know that, i have probably lived a bit longer in Thailand than you so do know how things work out.
It's the perfect angle for her, we get dried beef in a day from being on the spoiler, it is on a bamboo type plate though.
Where is the picture?
