Welkom inn Pattaya, and Hippo restaurant

    Pattaya Restaurant Guide

This place in North Pattaya is an instituition, it is often refered to as the Belgium embassy.

It stretches from Soi 2 to soi 3 between second road and Beach road, this place you could come here for a 2 week holiday and never have to leave the grounds, so where should we start?

I would imagine that the soi 3 side gets the most customers, this side has the Welkom Inn short time bar, I believe that was the first short time bar I had ever visited, this is one of the sleaziest places you could imagine, it is absolutely fantastic, My first visit there we had the option of waiting an hour for available rooms, or me and me mate sharing a room with the 2 gals, well there was no way either of us were willing to wait an hour so we shared a room, it was awful, when we finished there was used condoms all over the place, Oh to be 25 again

Anyway as last night was a Big Budha day they wernt allowed to be open, ie not allowed to sell booze.

To make sure the police would realise that they were closed they stuck 2 rocks against the door, the 2 young ladies at the entrance told us to go round the back and go into the bar through the toilets

    Cunning people these Thai gals

Here is the door to the back entrance cunningly concealed in the toilet.

The Hippo restaurant and Piano Bar is on Soi 2 end, they have a big parking lot there so parking isn't a problem.

This place is really classy but alas has aircon, which means no smoking.

So off we walked through the hotel grounds past the swimming pool, past the hotel rooms, past the rear of the short time bar rooms and into the open air restaurant where we could smoke till our hearts were content, or until we got lung cancer which ever comes first.

As you can see by the menu the prices are quite high by Pattaya standards, but hell you pay for what you get.

Even though this is the outside dining area they still used silk table cloths, Quite a nice touch I reckon.

The main courses come with the choice of french fries, mash potatos, Fried bits of potato with bacon on, amongst other choices.

Being English I opted for the mash potato with chicken fillet in madras sauce, this was actually superb and the first time I have completly finished a meal in a long time, I beleive it was 180baht but it was worth every single penny, I did order a Mai Thai cocktail for afters but they didn't have any grenadine, funny that, the only cocktail Thailand is famous for and they didn't have the ingrediants to make one

Anyway onto my raw animal eating friend, yep he ordered the steak tartar, now this for the uninformed amongst you is raw minced cow and a raw egg and some green stuff, I have to admit I have only eaten this once, but I sent it back to be cooked, I didn't think it was very nice cooked so I wouldn't eat it raw, anyway my raw animal eating friend went onto show me how to prepare your steak tartar for eating, mix it all up into a big pile, chuck in a quarter bottle of ketchup, aload of worstershire sauce, then gobble it down, these condiments are added as raw beef doen't really taste of anything, all seems a bit of a waste of time to me, still each to there own I suppose, he said it was great, I believe the steak tartar was 220baht, which to my mind seems a bit much for something they haven't even bothered cooking for you.

The only let down on the meal was the french fries that came with the burger, Yep they were the frozen ones, well and the flavourless cheese slice, but hell you aint gonna get a good burger with fries for 110baht.

Still the service was very good, although one of the waiters had very limited English language skills so try to advoid his tables if your Thai isn't upto scratch.

I've been to the Welkom Inn short time bar --- it's fantastic. Draft beers are only 50 baht and almost every girl in there is hot. Last weekend I was eyeing this half Chinese chick with huge knockers. I don't think I could ever use a short time room, though. Disgusting.
