    I've gotta confession to make!

Yes, it's the start of a great Foo Fighters song! But,it's been almost 7 years since I last visited Pattaya and in two short weeks I will be back there again. So what in that time has changed. Has it become more jaded?. I am asking dear members as I come under different circumstance than my last visit. I am now recently separated and apart from THAT I just need a break. I am not talking about 24/7 shagging and drinking but to unwind and relax so, last time I was there It was bang in the middle of Songkran and I was unaware what this was and things from what I heard were quiet. Any direction on what to expect would be great.

The bars are all still here but will have changed ownership at least a dozen times in 7 years.

The girls are still there, only older and they've changed hands a few times in 7 years.

Don't whatever you decide to do, hire a Jet Ski , there's lots of info on here about the dangers of hiring a Jetski in Pattaya.

    To unwind and relax?

What I would expect would be checking into a quiet hotel, early nights, a book or two in my suitcase and restaurants in or near the hotel. Also maybe wandering off for a massage somewhere would be good. Maybe check for cable or satellite TV in the hotel rooms or take a small DVD player to watch movies in the room.

You will see more Russians, Arabs, Indians and Chinese. But the formula remains the same.

Were you born to resist or be abused?

I wouldn't go to Pattaya to do that, Dill. Might as well stay at home or go somewhere quieter. However, the OP says he/she wants to "unwind and relax" without "24/7 shagging and drinking". Going to Rayong might be a better idea.

    Cool

I haven't been there for a few years.

The Apex hotel is still there, and has a website now.

    Apex Hotel @ Pattaya

Still probably the best place to stay in Paters.

The Green Hotel is physically next to Central Plaza.

    Rooms are basic.

But it's clean, Budget priced, friendly staff, has a pool and offers a 1/2 decent (budget) brekkie.

    Walk easily everywhere.

The Amari is nice and well away from all the dregs down walking street. Although you could just doss by tghe pool in a 5 star in Bangkok and doss by the pool.

Why you'd wanna go to Pattaya solely to relax is a bit strange

Fly to Krabi or Samui. Far better for relaxing if you something easy to fly to.

Haven't been along Beach Rd/2nd Road since 2010. That was during the day for lunch before we headed to Koh Chang by minibus.

Stayed at Amari Orchid which was nice and away from the so-called ''action''

Was there a year later but stayed on the darkside, went drinking with a couple of guys from here

To be honest, from what I keep hearing about all these cheapo Chinks, Indians, Koreans etc etc ..I'd be terrified to have a night out there.

They got no right to ruin the reputation of a once fun city

Pattaya could do with a decent 12,000 capacity arena to host concerts, don't know why it's never been a regular stop for bands like Bangkok is
