What's the delay with the new Hooters?

Went to Beach Road this morning as I finally was told where the new American restaurant Hooters will be located. It was supposed to open in "August" so I figured that meant today?

Silly me. First thing that happened was as I came down Pattaya Klang, on to Beach road and approached Soi 9, a police officer came from a pack of same sprinting towards my motorcycle with his arm extended and a wave to come over to him and I assume, give him some money. I swerved to the right and didn't come close to hitting him, and lucky for me, he or they didn't have a backup plan for those of us who ignore them. It was odd him picking me as I was not speeding or crossing lanes and had a helmet on.

So, I get to the new Hooters and nothing is being built or about to open. Whatever was there before is torn down, but you can't tell much else. Certainly not near opening. I wonder what happened? Anyone know the real deal? The new McDonalds is obviously about to open and that also involved tearing down an existing structure.

On a somewhat sad note, I went to facebook and found their page. No mention of when it will actually open, if ever. I assume millions of Baht invested just for the rights and property and they don't even keep a website updated? Then I found a menu online, most likely from their only location in Phuket, and it seems like you need at least 3-4000baht just for a decent meal and a few beers, and that before any "tip" or "hooterfine" should same exist?

Overall, a really odd set of events. I actually like the food back in the USA. I thought it might work here but now I have my doubts as being mis-managed before it even opens....

After posting I read of that possibility. It seems they are refusing to pay the proper fees and others that grease the wheel. Good looks and talk only gets you so far, you still have to pay. No pay, no play.

I went in Phuket. Nice and clean enough and decent atmos (depending on who you're with) but I thought the food was overpriced and a bit shit.

Wonder if it would work then? Why would someone go to a place selling shit over priced merkin trough slop just because there are birds working there with udders under tight t-shirts when within a stones through there will be a a thousand places in the vicinity they sell better food, or have birds working with udders out enticing the customer to buy something. Makes about as much sense as lap dance clubs that keep popping up for a could of months all over Asia.

The food is/was good at all the Hooters I ever went in. It is priced double in the USA and perhaps triple or quadruple here according to the menu online. They will in fact try and control what the girls do off duty, which of course leads us to the "hooterfine" question and whether the girls can be "bought out". All of it has obviously led the authorities to figure it's just another farang "bar" with prostitutes and they want their share/stipend in addition to "key" money.

I seriously doubt the girls hired are given a guaranty of 35,000.baht a month. However, since I don't know, I'll find out and get back to you on it mate. Bangkok is also interesting because the location is nothing, no view, no anything, not even that close to a BTS stop although some don't mind walking a little bit. Overall, at first I thought the concept would work in Thailand but since they want to charge western prices(actually, double real western prices but the same double as Hooters in the west) well, I have my doubts. You are looking at close to if not exceeding 3000baht for a couple entries and a few beers. That's for one person, not a group or dare I say it, "couple". Guys who are going to bring their bargirls in there what can we say except to repeat they would enjoy a noodle stand more...get with it will you mates??
