SIT, if your still in Campbell River there's a great Thai Restaurant run by a lady from Phitsanulok. Her name is Noy. Imagine Thai Food, 220-D Dogwood Street, Campbell River BC (778) 346-3663
^I know a Noi...
Hi my beacons are
ARC
AquaLink Personal Locator beacons
Yip waterproof to certain depths for certain periods of time.
We had to registar them in our own names. Same specs as a boat mounted beacon.

Sounds good..thx
Found this thought you would find it interesting:

That is neat. A little scary. we are anchored in Nanaimo Harbour (Southern Vancouver Island) very idilic just not used to being around other boats. Still the sun is shinning and life is less stressful.
Miss the north. But not the cold. Luksana posted a bunch more photos last night when we found free internet. Which after 2 hours of farting around we have again tonight. Had to fire up the outboard, and it worked first time. Now only a few jobs away from being ready to go. Sort of can't believe it but I guess we have to do this now.
heard there is/was a floating pub with super burgers etc off south side of Newcastle..long time ago .we nevr went as kids young ...probably a short burst with your dingy from Nanaiamo. Used to be that Nanaiamo yacht club gave free moorage opposite Newcastle for BC YC members..remember that in winter they had wonderful HOT showers .....and washing machines!
Don't wanna hijack the thread - but worth sharing about fuel problems on my own boat....constant engine can't be that much fun and burns the $ too.
I top my diesel tank up every 5 - 6 hours under engine with approx 20 l to keep it 100% full. There's always the chance of some debris and nastiness at the bottom of the tank and keeping it full helps stop it getting stirred up.
On my own boat I lost the engine on 300 m off a lee shore. Fortunately only 15 knots of wind and quick unfurl of genoa got me out of dodge. The cause was crappy fuel picked up from a mobile tanker in Greece.
I've developed a healthy paranoia about it all. Occasionally add in injector cleaner (250ml per 100l fuel) to help break down any crap and having the tools in place to clear out primary filter. Fortunately the Yanmar is self bleeding.
Was solo around Cape Maleas, the s tip of the Peloponese two days ago - perfect 15 knot katabatic wind then round cape and smash into 30 knot head wind and 2-3 metre sharp breaking waves. Two very wet and mind focusing hours hoping the engine would keep running
Look forward to hearing more of the adventure. I'm holed up with my tub on Kythera - a pretty much land that time forgot Greek island waiting for a 5/6 northerly to drop down before plodding off.
20 minutes after this pic all hell broke loose:
^also by only filling my fuel tank via 20l containers I can see if there is any crap in the fuel and also I am running it through an additional filter in the funnel just in case.
Using containers and keeping boat tank at 100% means able sometimes to get roadside fuel plus it's is often 5-10c cheaper a liter and usually cleaner than tanker delivered too
That says how I feel. hate having the engine running cause it might stop!! lol. Always listening for the slight change in pitch etc. check gauges etc. Not had a problem in 16 years but before that I had some nightmares. I do the same with refuelling. After we took the pounding I changed the filters, could see some junk in the water separator, nothing bad but, you know the logic.Originally Posted by Lostandfound
As to hijacking the thread, no problems. Any Sail type topic is good by me
Thanks for the photos KW. I was close to wishing I had a camper van at that time.LOL
We finally are in the deep south. Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Big city cars boats people, bit of a culture shock. Crap they even have traffic lights!!! Sun came out got very red. But not to worry rain and 25 knots on the nose. So may have to find a place to go as we are anchored in a nice spot, but we are in a open spot for the south winds.
Did manage to find a lift to get the boat up to change the transducer. That bloody log is going to cost us over $500. Still crap happens. The boating season is now starting and we have to wait until Saturday. So we will head south early tomorrow to get the SSB tuned and then back up Friday or early Saturday Morning. Dogs arsed way of doing things but getting close
Very weak connection from some kind soul who has left his system open on default. But Luksana did post more pics on the blog. I will have a go before leaving, which will now be as soon as the weather clears. Which will happen sometime.
No worries, I can imagine you were wishing for a campervan at that time, looks bloody horrid.Originally Posted by Sailing into trouble
I had a day tank in my brick shithouse..additional filter adjacent in line..also one of those anti microbe magnet filters ( maybe useless piece of junk?)....anyways never had a contamination problem BUT forgetting to fill the day tank one trip spent 2hours trying to bleed the old clunker of a marinised ford....never had to do before so missed crucial bleed point...dragged the boat to anchorage with dinghy at night..running in 10 minutes when it got light and dragged out shop manual ..dumb shit me....lol
Had water in engine oil once...head gasket leaking (not blown)...of course I had a spare NOT...a deisel mechanic once told me that a painting old leaky gasket with suspended particle silver paint and reinstalling was a good temp fix...it worked.
God when your car engine buggers up, you pull over and fix it or wait for the AA to turn up. Boats, the engine quits and you start finding god!
Today moved the boat 20 miles so that I could have my ssb tuned . Got to the dock and noticed the exhaust had gone dry. Heat exchanger had come apart. This spot has no machine shop. It would take me 20 min sot fix the problem with a drill press. Gott to f'ing laugh. If I had stayed in the big city no problems. Mrs hogged the comp so her pics on the web page.
But arriving at a safe anchorage after a long day bashing into waves with 30 knot headwind, the whole time hoping the engine will keep going feels really good.
Celebrated last night with several ouzos, a litre of retsina and some metaxas with fellow yachties in Kaiyo, Pelopponese.
Where r u now? Has the butter melted yet or still in northern climes?
We are in Ionian en route west. Maybe Barcelona for winter or even uk or Panish Rias. No feckin idea really but enjoying the ride
Look forward to the pics from your part of the world
