Well they are for now but I will cut them back a lot during rainy season. Thais are funny folks about trimming trees. They do not want to lose fruit opportunities so keeping them small for first 4 or 5 years to allow the trunk to grow large and roots deep is not what they do. So my wife learned a few few things as it was her fruit trees that fell. All good and no real damage.

Well I laughed a bit as it only takes one where they buried it shallow for the rest to fall. The rest fell as the wind whipped the cables. I saw 2 if them where the pole snapped at the ground and I swear I didn't see any rebar. That also wouldn't surprise me. One thing I love about living here is there is never a dull moment.

I think your idea about " Patina" and mine differ quite drastically. I suspect you think of it as piss on the floor, toothpaste residue in the sinks, dirty mirrors, mold in the showers, dirty dishes in the sink, crap and clothes laying all around the place etc. In the US we call that "White trash and Lazy". Appears you think of it as patina of life. Whatever works for ya.
Tax is a pikey stumpy. There the white trash of the UK. Apparently. Tax isn't used to a bit of opulence

i dont think i mentioned or hinted at piss on the floor, toothpaste in the sink, mold in the showers, or anything else indicating dirt, rank untidiness, laziness or white trash.

i merely highlighted what i see as the contrast between a home so pristine, so perfect, so instagrammable that an inhabitant or guest might just possibly feel slightly uncomfortable causing their hosts offence or disrespect by putting their feet up, breaking wind, or god forbid allowing a grain of rice or globule of sauce to fall on the floor or chair, and a home where dogs, cats and children roam free, and the glorious patina of a shall we say a less compulsive life is lived, where a fallen book or pen or even a sock may lay around for a few hours before being retrieved, where some motes of dust may float around in the sunlight and not be considered a hygiene emergency, while the homeowner relaxes in his armchair watching tv, enjoying a drink or nodding off in the heat in a happy state of "i dont give a fuck i will sort it out later, in my own time".

a lived in home may be occasionally untidy but it is never dirty, mold ridden or piss stained as you seem to imply.

You just advised mendy to add a floor rug around the toilet bowl to catch all of the drips you are too lazy to shake off properly.

my post on mendys thread was an ironic bon mot in the spirit of the thread, and not advice, and before you go off on one of your idiotic jealousy rants, my posts here are in much the same vein, as stumpy well knows, even if as an humour free american he finds them hard to grasp..

and we have all seen pics of the shithole shoebox you call home, so give it a rest.

or he could be OCD ?

Mendy on the other hands has more to worry about, like trying to explain those toes !

I get the humour Tax...albeit still not going to convince me you were joking about the piss on a toilet seat.

Lets be honest here, everyone has a level of cleanliness they either grew up with or expect as adults. To each his own. I also understand that posting pictures on an anonymous forums subjects that poster to comments both good or bad and its all part of the deal which is why many do not do it.

As I have said, I post pics for fun, to wind a few up and show a slice of my life life living here. While some make cracks about OCD, Its not even close. I again only post what I want the audience to see. Yes I am organized, yes I keep the place tidy in the areas where I want them to be but that's about it. So your "Humor" picture of the guy measuring his grass height (which you have posted twice now) is not how I am at all. Sure I mow my lawns but when you have lawns you have to, its part of upkeep. Don't want to mow, do not grow grass.

While I did not visit that toes thread as I suspected it was awful as it was back when Mendy posted his infected toes and his dog licked them. Still a bit scarred from that pic. But I trust he posted another one of similar nature.

I'm looking at putting metal sheet roofing with 35mm PU foam on a townhouse and I'm now thinking twice as I don't want it to end up in Kunming come storm season.

They generally don't fly away when installed by a ragtag crew of shifty Isaan teenagers that come from a tiler father called Lek, right.

As I sit through a long winded exec update call, I thought I would post another thought.

So growing up a few things I learned from my friends is that perception drives a lot, for good or bad. I have numerous friends in the states that own construction companies and either build custom homes, renovate or do basic repairs. Having said that, many of our talks and laughs around weekend BBQ parties it always seems to surface about some recent jobs they had or are currently working on. I can tell you with confidence that the help you contract to do jobs will invariably assess how much effort they are going to have to put into it based on how someone keeps their place. Right or wrong, that is just how it is. If someone's place is a mess and poorly maintained they will do what needs to be done to complete the job but will not go to any real lengths to do a great job. However if they see a client has a clean, well kept place they know the expectations are higher thus they will do a better job knowing that their client will be paying attention to that work. Again, just how it is.

It's just reality. It's like the other saying. "You get what you pay for". Find cheapest and get exactly that. Spend a few bucks more and quality and finish typically improves plus more engagement from the contractor. They will ask questions if they find your request odd.

Shouldn't that be in Mendy's Toe thread?
