Last few days have been busy. Always something to do.
Adding my clutch kit to the ATV. This is the CVT tech belt system Small hub is Primary, larger one secondary
Primary off.
Swapped out counter weights to lighter units for a quicker throttle response off idle
Replaced factory secondary spring and Helix. This part will increase torque and mid range.
Primary and secondary re assembled and ready to go back in. Test run yielded what was expected. Great off throttle response and midrange has more pull which will help on the muddy trail runs.
Today is a different project.
So where people enter and exit the pool most frequently, I noticed a sag in the decking and tore up a few planks
The salt water and where the screws were installed in the galvanized steel started a cathodic etching and the metal was gone.
The corroded metal only seems to be at the pool ladder area and thats because I have a salt water pool. I will replace the metal and try a different approach to avoid disrupting the galvanized steel. I think when we drilled in the deck plank holders the first time it made it more susceptible to corroding. If the problem persists I might just rip it all out and cement and put a nice brick design. Its been 3+ years. I thought about wood but even teak would dry rot out in no time.
Maybe Black Locust would be good. Pricey but damn good for pool.
Black Locust Lumber >> Robi Decking
^ I have found the problem with dark-coloured wood decking to be that it can really absorb the sun's heat and be painful to walk on during the day. I've also found it can be a bit slippy to walk/run on when wet.
Wow, Stumpy, amazing how corrosive the salt water has been over just three years, although I can't complain - this is partly what keeps me busy working with offshore pipelines, they just hate seawater. One day I'm planning to convert our pond to salt but that requires a completely different pump/filter assembly due to how corrosive the salt is and I'm waiting for our current freshwater system to finally die. It's now 17 years old and 7 years out of warranty, so it won't last forever.
Assuming you can't set up some kind of cathodic protection system for your metal framework and go for concrete, I would highly recommend a pea gravel finish. At least I think that's what they call it, and you can't go wrong with peas of course. We have had this around our pool for 17 years and I have never regretted it. I think that it looks nice and also you maintain perfect grip when running around the pool, important if kids are involved or if you like to drink and carry a couple of extra pounds!
I'm away from home at the moment and can only find one picture of our pea gravel pool surround, so apologies in advance but it really is the only way I'd ever go.

^ I know, I'm happy to edit but it really is the only photo I could find.
The pea gravel really is excellent around a pool.
My feet have transformed since then, by the way.
Firstly, I opened the thread after a long day of deck repair and had just eaten and saw Mendy's hobbit feet and damn near gave up dinner. You know Mendy you have web feet like my labs...just in case you are curious.
Well so I got the fix in place. I opted for wood for now. It clearly isn't optimum for 1k baht in materials, I will take it
I tore out the corroded metal and gone. Then salvaged good parts in place and ran the wood along them. I used Teak which should give me a few years. The rest of the deck is in perfect shape, its the heavily pool exited area.
Back to normal....
Long term when this happens again I will pull it all and fill with sand and pour 5" thick cement around the perimeter and do the same pea gravel surface which I have around the paths at the property now. Its definitely hotter then wood but will last pretty much until I am "Outta" here.
I wanted to turn and burn on my ATV today to test the new set up in the mountains, but that was shelved until tomorrow.....But around here ya never know what one wakes up to that changes priorities.
Funny as it is DW, my wife wouldn't have noticed it like much around the Ponderosa so nagging never happens. I figure best get it fixed before some one steps on it and falls through. Took about 5 hrs and glad I did it now while it is still cooler. A month from now it will be an inferno.
The ice cold beer when done was worth it.![]()
How come you have a saltwater pool?
Well its a salt water pool as it converts the salt to chlorine. So the water has a higher saline concentration. To taste it, it doesn't seem like much, not like the ocean or anything. PPM is 3100 to 3300 which keeps the converter at optimum and keeps the pool stable and algae is never a problem as you can see. Its WAY better then a base pool where you are adding straight chlorine all the time. Its expensive and a lot more maintenance. I add 1 bag of salt every 2 or 3 months. 148bht.![]()
Thanks Armstrong for keeping that disgusting nasty ass foot pic going along. If that was my foot, I'd have it amputated![]()
^ Armstrong may take a while to reply.
It seems he's typing one-handed at the moment.
