Yeah Mendy. How long it lasts is a wait and see for sure. The good part is there is no wood on the ground, it is cement so no wood deck planks to worry about as you experienced with your pond Jetty. And hopefully being it will be shaded a bit by the palms and the house from afternoon sun, it might last a few extra years.

But I agree with you, metal or cement is best. While I love the look of the wood, unless Teak or Thai Redwood it just doesn't hold up and unfortunately Teak is really expensive.

As for women, don't we all...

Finally looks like some sun. Up early to vacuum the pool. Enjoying a "Magicalistic" Red Bull before I begin watching some NBA. Loaded with Vitamin B's, Taurine, Folic acid and a hit of caffeine.

Pool done and chems checked and good to go. Water temp perfect. Did some laps 2 days ago.

New fern seems to love its new location.

Got cement mount brackets drilled and installed on the path cover and sealant installed to keep as much water out as I can. I drilled small pilot holes but didn't want them to big to let ants and termites set up a home. Still waiting on the solar light as I have to take it apart to fit the wood light cover I made.

Last step is move it to its location and drilling the cement to put the anchors.

    Trellis / Trestle in place.

Will let the palms grow over the top it for awhile. Just received the solar light today and have to cut it up and make it fit the teak light cover.

Looks very nice. I guess that the primary purpose is to pin the palms back to maintain a walk through to/from the pool area.

Well not really but it serves that purpose. We have quite a few guests that come over (family and friends) and when they come the location they all head too is to the pool area. As things have grown the only option was to walk all the way along the side of the house to cut over. Same situation exists if you walk from the main part of the house to the pool area. So this creates a clear path to the pool area and is wide enough to allow my 2 little nieces that visit to swim to bring their floaties through it and go jump in the pool.

Finally a clear "Winter" day. I got a notification to update my Drone software so thought I do a fly around.

The Wang River is still very high and quite muddy. I regularly shoot hoops at the Basketball court along the river . . at night they have some great pick up games.

Did a quick roof inspection and then some shots of how everything is incredibly green right now.

My little Mooban area. Very quiet and relaxing.

    Cool pics!

Didn't realise how populated your area is, you couldn't tell from the ground pics.

Well that is the entire mooban for the most part. But it is well populated with nice folks. I see many every day on my bike or when taking my FIL to his doc appt at the hospital on the ATV. I enjoy the area as it is very quiet, no traffic but has really everything you need for day to day life within a few minutes and Lampang City is 15 minutes away with all the major stores and an airport.

If you need an upgrade from your ATV, there are several (well at least 4 anyway) steam locomotives in near mint condition at the old sugar mill a couple of minutes ride from your ranch to the south.

Don't suppose the drone can reach Phuket.

Quite an interesting part of development here, or interesting to me at least.

As with many satellite towns here, I would wager that 100 years ago it was pretty much all rice paddies with the odd family dwelling. Then, a grandmother with a rai of land would have died and the one rai of farm land would have been divided up between her 5 or 6 children, who then would have built their houses on their divided up plot, or one of the next generation would have. So you will have one rai clumps of land with 5 or 6 houses squeezed in next to each other, dotted around the place. Often not paying the money to have the land office come and survey the land and mark up the exact size of each plot, or have paid the money to to the land office to separate the chanote land titles. Not such an issue when it was all done between brothers/sisters 2-3 generations ago, but can cause issues now a few gens later when family members that have never even been in the town come in to possession, and the neighbours 1 meter away are unrelated blow-ins etc, and there are no legal boundaries set or separate chanotes for the properties.

As I said, I think it's an interesting aspect of development here.

A bloke up the road from there near Mae Taeng bought an old airplane and made it into a hotel right off the highway.

Reckon some bloke with a lake could have them moved next to it, set up with a table inside and have a gimmick cafe/resto where people sit in the open locomotive instead of a sala.

There is a lot of interesting history up this way. This mooban really was developed back in the day due to Sugarcane growing. A huge factory was built only later to be torn down or at least a large part of it. According to my FIL the area was established some 100 years ago. Many of the Teak home's are that old. The one we tore down to build our place was built my FILs Dad and was 90+ years old. Most of the plots up here are pretty descent size and not attached to rice fields. As the older folks pass on, their children who moved to BKK or other cities are moving back and fix up the houses.

The old Sugarcane factory is now a ThaiBev distribution warehouse.

The Temple where I will be torched is 200+ years old. They have others in Lampang that are significantly older. There are multiple generations living here in the same house and location.

Those gimmicky places launch in Thailand and after the Facebook rush, die off and nobody comes anymore and they usually get abandoned. I don't see too many around these parts. Most of the Cafe/Coffee places are old school places and Great quality coffee is still only 35bht a cup.

After an early busy morning for the company, the day begun.

Came down and found this butterfly. It has a wounded wing so its pretty much done.

Took the ATV for a turn and burn through the area and along the river side.

Ahhhh Yes. Friday it is. Time to pull up a chair and relax.

Finishing up the Trellis. I bought a solar light and had to tear it apart to mount into the light fixture I made to sort of match. This was a bigger pain than I thought. I had to unsolder the power wires and move a capacitor, then resolder to the PCB. Then in one of those moments needed 3 hands as I had to align the PCBA, power line and mount to wood top and screw in place. Lots of cussing and laughing. Looks easy in pics...

Lighting installed and Solar panel set up.

Few night pics. Big win, Wife loves it. . I really like that all our perimeter lighting is all solar. I'd consider doing the house if the economics worked out but just not there yet, unfortunately.

Unless you are 6'5 no worries Cy. Of course if you are a wide girth person its 120cm wide so it can accommodate "Large" folks even in wheel chairs. That said, at 5'8 I am good and as we age we get shorter. I fully expect to be a midget by 75 if I live that long.

You're not supposed to say 'midget' any more mate, it's not politically correct.

You should have said that you'll be a dwarf by 75.

. Is Dwarf politically correct? I wasn't sure. How about Height challenged by 75? I hate all this PC stuff. It used to be you could call people retards. Can't even say "Handicapped" anymore. Thank God I will check out. I feel bad for my daughters. They have to contend with all these pussy ass politically correct whinging snow flakes who support LBGQT crap and cry when they aren't accepted.

In one of her pastoral care classes recently, the daughter said that the discussion of nick names came up. She told the teacher that her father often calls her 'retardo'. (I've always thought that 'retard' is a bit harsh - and it's only in fun of course, and only when she does something particularly stupid).

Anyway, she said that the teacher was absolutely stunned.

I've had to have a bit of a rethink.
