cheers for that Begbie: some questions if you don't mind...

So how much was it to hire the boat for the day?

Who decided where to go and where to stop?

Have you been before or did the skipper take care of all that?

Any info about the floating hotel there?

    TIA...KM

I don't think I'm going to be much help on any of this. This was actually a kind of scouting trip for a much bigger charity run which took place a week later. Most of the other people were government or health workers. So...

Don't know but I'll try and find out.

Who decided where to go and where to stop?

The stops had been decided in advance, to pass out basic medicines and a few other things. We stopped at every cluster of raft houses within range of a few hours sailing.

First time I'd been. A few of the people in the group had been before. What impressed me was not the scenery, which was bone dry, but the emptiness, climb up the hill to the west and the next stop is Burma.

Any info about the floating hotel there?

    Sorry no.

    TIA...KM

To be honest I wouldn't recommend it. I'm glad I went as it's an area I'd never been to before, but in terms of attractions there wasn't much to see. I'm not sure if the pictures convey how desolate and empty the area was. Plus a lot of time spent sitting in a boat.

If you were going trekking then it may be one of the last unspoilt areas. I never saw any hilltribes but they've got to be up there somewhere.

You might consider Waterninjas suggestion, going to see the dam itself which is near Tak. Think they have a golf course as well.

The dam does have a golf course and accommodation. 600-2000 baht

Boat hire from the Dam is 1000 baht/hour for a 25 passenger boat

I wonder who would come out there and stay on the moving hotel?
some of the people coming the week after these pictures were taken, A big schoolgroup. looks like they would go broke, pretty isolated.
    Very good, interesting
