Chiang Rai anyone?

I want to visit Chiang Rai, and im not sure if this is the wrong place to put it. What is in Chiang Rai, and is it worth going too? Where is Isaan? sorry for the ignorance.

CR is a great place.
I know i'll get my balls chewed for saying this but I think it is far better than CM. What sort of things are you into ?

Nothing really.
It's just a different type of place altogether.

I can't remember.

It's easy enough to get from Chiangmai to Chiang Rai anyway.
If you feel like a change, they are only around 3 hours apart.

i saw some pics of chiang rai on the other thread in travellers tales. This place is gorgeous. Temples, and waterfalls, i can't wait to go to both places.

Chiang Rai is ok but nothing special. It's best to go there after you've spent some time in CM or BKK and just want to relax and do nothing for a short while. It's a great place to hire a car or a motorbike and go exploring the hill-tribe villages and you can take a day trip to Burma or Laos easily from there. After you've spent 30 seconds looking at the statue of King Mengrai and half an hour or so at the white temple, you're pretty much finished sight-seeing in the city although the topiary on the central reservations if the road into the city is pretty interesting. If you do go to the white temple don't go to the gallery showing the artists paintings, they're sub-psychedelic trash and it's hard to believe the same artist is also responsible for the temple. Somewhere there must be a Thai artist who wants to paint something other than Buddhas, elephants, or half-naked women

babygirl have a nice time in CR & CM! I haven't been to either, but from what I've read both places are amazing! Especially Chiang Mai.

So, what is your reason for visiting Thailand?
