Whisky with snakes in the bottle ?

A while back I was looking at a web site that was selling liquor with poisonous snakes, scorpions, and other creatures in the bottle. I think the company was in or outside Udon Thani. Pretty sure North East Thailand. Would like to buy some to put behind the bar. Not for sale, just conversation pieces. Does anybody know what I'm talking about. Will keep trying to find this site. Seems like it was a site for many different Thailand businesses.Thanks;

AFAIK, they're sold in pretty much every major city...I know they're really common in Cambodia and especially Vietnam. I remember seeing some shops selling them on my travels but cant remember where exactly. I'd say you'd definitely find them somewhere in Bangkok. Maybe at Chatuchak or Chinatown?

I got all mine from Laos... I know they are for sale in the night market - chiang mai, but in your neck of the woods no idea.

I have never seen a website selling them but a very popular site for thais selling stuff is pantipmarket.com. You'll need a thai to type/navigate for you.

You won't be able to buy it with the right tax sticker on it, if it is on the business premises it's like a 10k baht fine per bottle, saying it aint for sale wont cut no ice with them.

there's a chinese rice wine with a gheko in the bottle. bought some once for the novelty and was gonna stick it on the shelf but ended up drinking it. I suppose some novelty lizard drinks would be a a memorable last slurp when your bar shuts down.

What is it with the taxed liquor bottle? These people are or were selling this stuff. If they're selling it in Thailand, it doesn't matter if they're selling it to a business or an individual, they're still selling it. Would somebody explain to me what I'm missing here.

I picked my two bottles up at the market at Kap Chong coming back from a border run.They cost me 250 bht. each,t he bottle has a Cobra inside with a black scorpion in its mouth, I haven,t tried to drink the spirit inside the bottle yet am not even sure if its rice whisky or not.

The Midget seems to think they do a yah dong with the critters in and you might be able to buy it at an OTOP store. It doesn't need the tax labels either.

Unfortunately theres a shop in Klong Toey that sells the stuff.
My missus just brought one,she leaves it for a year then sells it on,latest bottle cost 600 baht.But she can sell it on for 1000 baht.

Yeah, guess mine are shot. Can't understand why, if you can buy it legally, possess it legally, and then turn around and sell it legally, then why is DD saying you would get fined for having it. Down where the restaurant is, we have guy's that walk there elephants up and down the beach. For 100 baht, I think it is, you can feed the elephants. Brit friend of mine told me that it's a 100,000 baht fine to feed these elephants. So I said, why don't they fine the elephant owners for charging money for people to feed them. He said, because then that would hurt the elephant owners. Seems I have a lot to learn about the corrupt nature of Thailand.

Yes, your probably right. I know a few Thai's that have educated in the States and UK. They seem to be much more in tune with what we think to be rational and logical. At the same time they understand, what your saying we can't. It's almost like Thai people, not all, make things up as they go along to suit what they want as they want it. Forget what's legal or illegal, that's just something that's on a piece of paper. That's where adhering to principles that are commonly accepted by most civilized countries, escapes them. But, maybe I'm wrong.

And thats not me speaking shit about them, as I choose to live here, am in a relationship with a Thai and I generally enjoy being here (since I stopped my own business anyway).

To live here and be at ease is a difficult task, it involves forgetting a lot, and accepting things you would never of thought about before.

But once you have that sorted and can eventually see past the anger and frustration you'll find your place hopefully. I feel sorry for the bitter few that hang on to their home countries way of life so tightly that they hate being and living here but are too stubborn to leave.
