    Moving back to Ubon

    Hello,
As this is my first post on TD I would like to introduce myself. I am a former Ubon resident (Khemarat) who moved the family back to Australia 5 years ago so the kids could get some much needed english based education. That has been achieved and I am retiring at the end of the year and moving back to Ubon. Initially we will be living back at Khemarat until the start of the 2012 Thai school year where we will either rent or buy in Ubon.
I hope to communicate with some of you guys and hopefully catch up for a yarn some day.
    Carl

Welcome back. Pleasant, sleepy town on the Mekhong is Khemmarat. I live the other side of Trakhan.

Three expat bars in Ubon now (wow)- Wrong Way Cafe, NJoy, & TC Kitchen.

    Hi Sabang,
I was in Ubon for a few months this winter. After my return to the states I heard the Njoy had closed. Is it open again, or did it never close? Went to the njoy several times and had a good time. I hope your correct and the info I received was wrong as I planned on visiting the njoy again during my next trip.

    Have a great day.
    Jon

It closed for a while. The ex-tenant, Lance, now operates TC kitchen.

Good to hear- and I hope you have an even better time next time you go there.
    Why?

..... Because my wife and two of her cousins are the new owners. It's doing OK too.

    Sabang,
I went to NJoy years ago when Lou and his wife ran the bar. What has become of Lou. Is he still around.

You'll see more westerners now in these areas.Ubon city are doing lots of improvements around town. They have rebuilt the fountain as you enter Ubon city over the bridge from Warin & have planted lots of
street trees between Thung Sri Muang & the post office. There are some new housing areas west of Rajabhat & to the east of the airport. The power still goes off regularly [like just now ]

I saw Louis yesterday Sezz- he recently returned from Australia, where he was having some medical stuff done. He's trying to nudge the bottle less these days, but he's OK.

I know it's not strictly a bar, but is Pepper's still going?

Yes, Peppers is still going from what I read but it is under new ownership & management. The previous owner returned back to Australia for a time as his wife was expecting a baby.

Peppers still going. I think the previous owner is living in the country outside Ubon City.
