Hi Kevin 2008
Thank you for your PM. Was a great time this thirty days in SDD. Maybe I will be back in April.
Update:
Further two big houses behind us are sold already.
Two new houses infront of the smaller houses were build up right now.
The german next to me wants to sell his house.
An employee of Suptawee tells us that there was a guy from Switzerland who was interested in having a look inside your house.
To be continued........![]()
Is that German housbilder Harry ? Or is it Sawang some other from germany who make houses ?
Hi all, Just enjoyed a few weeks back in Sawang, and for those not so lucky some of the changes I noted in the last few months.
Highway 22 Southern side to the East of the town, (In front of the High School) is all dug up at present, with large cement pipes being laid to replace the open storm water drains. A bit of a mess at present, but by wet season will be a great improvement. (I understand the plan is to build a "slip road" off highway 22 so will be much safer in future), especially before and after school when the traffic is deadly.
Lots of cement centre islands installed on all the completed Highwayt 22 bitumen upgrades, greatly improving safety. It is a real pity that a heavy traffic by-pass to the South of Sawang Daen Din isnt yet happening as the heavy traffic right through the centre is increasing and really congesting things.
The effects of another 1.2 million small cars sold under the govenments recent rebate system (finished end of Dec 2012) is very obvious with another few thousand cashed up old farmers are now wandering the centre of both lanes of the road at 60-80km an hour between Udon and Sakon Nakhon, having traded the trusty motor cycle !!!
The police really toughened up over the new year with all traffic stopped in and out of town, and particularly checking licences, and motor cycle helmets....I was stopped and asked to produce my licence on three occasions!
Where highway 22 runs through the centre of Sawang Daen Din, traffic during the day regularly stops....... due to empty cars and trucks just double parked everywhere, and left blocking half the traffic. I am not one for regulations, but a 250B on the spot fine, for double parking is really what's needed..... and move the main vegetable market away from highway 22 and the busiest intersection in the town!
Otherwise Sawang looks prosperous and land prices seem to be taking a hike up!
Harry was just doing flooring the last time I saw him approx 18 months ago but I know he is a builder by trade so he could have expanded his business.
He lives in the soi directly behind SDD high school should you want to contact him. The first school on the right as if you were driving from Udon to Sakhon. One of his vans is usually out front.
Hard to raise a goat in Isaan or elsewhere in Thailand. They hate the rain, their feet won't hold up in it. The bigger problem is worms. Haven't seen a wormer in Isaan. Goats won't last long once they get a belly full of worms.
Kens Kangaroo Pizza, now open in Sawang dan Din....Great PIZZAS...do home delivery, ...... also good Thai/Farang food including all day english breakfast.....![]()

Where about? There is a nice Internet cafe opposite the pizza shop. Nice bloke who owns it.
Sorry - not that one! 100 mtrs down a soi going south from main street along/opposite the school fence on the westside of the school (east-end of SDD). Confusing?? Sign with "Best Copy" outside (Best is the name of the eldest son - his littlesister JoobJeang just had her left arm amputated last year at Songkran)
They are a nice family too ;-)

OK - I think I know where it is, awful to loose an arm, sorry to hear that,
Great news that the Tesco Coffee shop is moving to the centre of town.....(much nearer to our place)...they have always made good Western meals and great milk shakes!
The Thai couple that own the coffee are great people, very nice and friendly.
Tesco Express due to open opposite side from same 7/11 ....rear of Bangkok Bank....site cleared.
Tesco Express is very welcome. Progress.
The local "mom n pop" stores are usually filthy and sell outdated dust covered goods.
Roger - spoke with the owners of the coffee shop the other day, no plans to move at this stage, there are actually two coffee shops, on on the right as you enter, they aren't moving at this stage as no room at Tesco mini, the other coffee shop is the one straight ahead / cake shop - maybe they are moving?
@ CTO.....Jan had long chat with lady owner of Coffee shop on right inside door of Tesco.
Lady owner said lease is for sale at 500,000 bht, rent is 15,000 bht a month.....she is NOT moving into the new Tesco Express but plans to open a convenience store close to the new Tesco.
She is not happy with the existing Coffee shop contract with Tesco which stipulates that the coffee shop must remain open 7 days a week which does not allow her any free time for herself and her family.
She did say that the unit would make an ideal Pizza shop,...seriously.![]()
She also said that there are plans to close the food court in Tesco...something to do with the location of a new cinema there.... OMG.where will old John go for his beer![]()
Hi CTO ....the Tesco Cake shop/coffee shop I think may be the same people that have the cake bakery in the 1st street South from highway 22.
The cakes seem to be baked there, and retailed in the TESCO Cake/Coffee shop.
I have visited the cake bakery, and although they have some nice looking cakes....and delicious deserts....I am very selective what I purchase....they have more than their share of flies visiting ......so make sure to pick out any black specs from the cream.....It would be nice to see improved standards of food preparation in Thailand enforced!![]()
It is a national health issue! But then again it is usually a local government function, and when you see how local government runs in SDD (a totally antiquated operation with no quality standards, and sadly lacking well educated managers prepared to make improvements) you see the root of the problem!
It willl be a pity if the coffee shop just inside the door of TESCO RHS goes, as it has some of the nicest western food in town, even though only a small choice.
I am sure that if they move and have a clean airconditioned shop with similar food and beveridge choices (and maybe a liquor licence) customers will soon find them, and they will prosper without the huge lease fees.
I don't think it's the same cake shop, prices are a lot cheaper and bigger variety at the in town cake shop.
The coffee shop people are staying on, they had the shop for sale but didn't seem to happen, so keeping on with it, very nice people.
Sawang Daen Din has a Facebook page "sawang daen din"...click like or become a friend.
