Lasts years and no Mot Dang biting him. If he posts a pic of beating a nail in with rock, I think we are heading backwards.

    Without pulling the piddle.

Is there a reason not to put down rolls of grass on all this barren dirt, to make it look like more of a garden and a much nicer place?

The Malay grass will take to pretty much anything and they pretty much give it away. Probably 7 or 8 meters of it for 100 baht.

Could well be it. Never had a dog (since the age of 10, anyway). Never mind 7 of them.

Anyone else wonder if he's got a hidden cosplay hobby that includes a Snow White dress?

    Jaysus help us.

Yes, they are Mendy's hooves, clearly.

No, I didn't think they were the gardener's, obviously.

Maybe it's the drinking alcohol for breakfast, but your senior moments are getting extreme.

Sorry Mendy. Eddie seems to be unraveling a bit

Eddie. You are a little frazzled. Stick with the Argue here thread and no need to reference the PJ girl here..although expected...

Lots of points I could take issue with here...

    In no particular order...

I just don't like socks but may consider gloves next time. The gardener has a pack of these white woolen kind of gloves that are pretty good.

Gloves may also stop the machete sliding out of my hand when I get sweaty.

A chainsaw seems a bit extreme for just the occasional job, but I may sharpen the machete next time. I may as well make things a bit easier.

I haven't had a Leo since Bangkok. I'm finally sorting myself out... but I will have a couple wile fishing with the dogs tonight as it's Friday night.

And no grass will grow in this area due to the shade... a problem which I hope to have solved, at least partly.

And I don't think any of our frying pans are man enough to bang in a nail, but I have a cast iron skillet, used once and collecting rust, which should be good for the job. I'll have to try and find it.

But anyway, despite my primitive ways I reckon we'll have this stump out in a couple more days!

^ Thanks for the advice mate.

I have a hardhat and a couple of gloves... but what is this 'comdon' thing?

The word brings back some distant memories from a previous life.

I have to say Mendy, In the US I wore gloves only on big jobs where I was swinging a big sledgehammer or a nail gun on the roof or pulling my winch cable out on my truck in the snow. But here I wear them for almost everything. When I first started work on our place here I was constantly getting blisters and big calluses from digging holes and planting trees, shoveling cement etc and it was due to the humidity and my hands slipping on the tools. I said forget that and bought some nice gloves from Global house ( 60 bht a pair) and never looked back. Blisters suck because you really can't work like you want to the next day because it is bleeding and painful so you have to put bandages etc on them. Another benefit is with Scorpions and friggen ants around, gloves protect you as well as getting lacerated by various plants.

As for socks, I have watched my FIL. Wife and FIL get stung by scorpions, drop things on their toes etc wearing flip flops. Never going to happen to me. I wear my Cheap old Tennys and some socks and all is good. It also avoids getting nasty hobbit feet from being exposed all the time. But whatever works for ya

Same deal, when I first moved here I was using all the Thai hack up shit tools. It was hot, it takes a ton of work, couldn't do a job very fast etc. My chainsaw has paid for itself 10 fold in both finishing a project fast and no real effort. yeah it can sit for 6 months but I use it alot because it makes jobs easier that I used to avoid because I didn't want to use a hack- a tool. But when I have a fallen tree, I can add a battery, walk out and in 10 minutes tops, have it cut into little pieces. Its not about dropping the tree, Its about cutting it up after. But again, whatever works for you. My wife loves the chainsaw and would never ever use a Thai hack-a tool again.

    Cheers

^ That's all good stuff mate, but the thing that you fail to appreciate is, as I have been told by the wife and countless other people, that I'm a stubborn cvnt.

There seems to be no escaping my genes, my dockyard riveter Grandfather was apparently the same.

So thanks for the advice, but I know that I'll continue to ignore it and carry on in my own ignorant way and work the hard way.

But at least it's good exercise!

ok but as soon as i could afford power tools rather than using someone else's cheap manual rubbish i bought the best i could - work smarter not harder. By your analogy you should be walking to pick up mini Mendip and giving her a piggy back home

He invited us inside the garden for his wedding, so it's only fair that we have a say on his divorce too !

    Really ?

My experience was that just about nothing would grow, without daily flooding from the hose, if out in the midday sun.

But I'll take your word for it.

Well that explains a lot Mendy. Here we all thought your were just complaining that nobody helped and you have no time in a day when in fact it is all your own doing making it all way harder than it needs to be. Think of all that free time you could have to relax.

I laughed Helge. That said though, after having big wood slivers go into my fingers, cuts and punctures from some of these palms I have around the place along with other plants gloves are mandatory or I would be bleeding all day.

All Skin piercing plants. 60bht (not being a stubborn hard headed guy) life is good and easy. No painful punctures, no blisters and I know you are a bit of a cheap guy, these last about 4 or 5 months with almost daily use. I bet you spend more on bandages and topical ointments then the gloves cost.

Btw from experience, those white cotton gloves suck ass. They protect nothing. Not only do they not stop punctures and potential cutting of your hand, they are hot and miserable to wear. My wife bought a pack of like 50 for 20bht. They sit on a shelf collecting dust albeit I do give one or 2 to the dogs to tear apart. You got to have good leather gloves which funnily enough, my wife now wears as well.

Your analogy would be good, if I was chopping down trees for an hour and a half, twice a day, five days a week while stuck in the awful Korat traffic. But since I only chop down one tree a year on average, I still think that buying a chainsaw is a bit indulgent.

I'm pretty sure it's the lack of sun light preventing the grass growing in that area by the pond. Here is the decorative front 'lawn' and you can clearly see the affect the shade from the mango trees has on the grass. I'm sure that seven dogs and no watering should also take some blame, though.

    Yep indeedy Mr. Tightwad.

Penny wise, pound foolish as you UK folks say. See all those openings in the stitched process? Please go grab a thorn branch on a lime tree branch or a pomelo tree and tell me how they worked? Post pics and make sure you cry like a baby that you work so hard and have cuts and blisters. We will all cry you a river. ..... .

But hey. You weren't indulgent, you saved a few baht and you spent an extra 4 hours doing a job that takes a normal type guy say...what...maybe....1?
