^ No it normally comes with an alarm tag. 20 quid all in
^^ Bloody hell, you're quick tonight, although I'm sure you're heard that before.
After my premature optimism following my slow-walking pool circuits today, I sat in my office for a couple of hours to do some 'work', after which I just could not get up off my office chair. My lower back had seized up again. The pain was just so intense. The wife offered assistance... which was a wonderful motivator and half an hour later I managed to get up on me own. I am starting to think I must take this very seriously.
Tonight, as I staggered off to put a bottle in the recycling I realised who really have my back (). It's weird but I can see the concern on my dogs' faces. They know something is up with their pack leader and they are out of sorts about it.
I am doing this with no meds but the Hong Thong just ain't delivering, so I upgraded to a bottle of Johnny Walter Red tonight. Could be 'Black' by the weekend! Yeah, 'Let those fingers do the walking'. I am at a stage in life now where I don't really need human company, apart from the daughter of course... and the occasional company of my friend in Bangkok... so I sat with Anna on my special high stool because I can't get up again if I sit down too low.
Tommy had his little 'Looperesque' penis end showing, as usual. He just loves to sit next to his pack leader.
Despite the pain, there is something wonderful about not being able to do anything because I can drink whisky safe in the knowledge that it's purely medicinal and I can't get up tomorrow anyway. It also seems to be helping my mental stress levels about the loss of work... although it is an obviously worrying indicator about what, God forbid, retirement in Isaan could look like.
But for now, I will take the medicine.
CT and MRI to check nothing serious happening to discs bones or nerves, then a visit to a GOOD chiropractor.
NSAID painkillers instead of alcohol.
Mendip, i can sympathise, my lower back, Lumbar 3, is buggered.
i used to go see this old South African DR. in Brisbane who simply injected cortisone into the surrounding muscles, this relaxed the muscles, removed the pain and allowed full movement again.
you can get it done in Thailand and there will be some local quack that will be able to do it.
Think about this

^ Many thanks Moose, much appreciated.
I'm not adverse to a trip to Bangkok and will consider anything, but first I need to get to the hospital for xrays and stuff to find out what the problem is. I'll try and get the pre-authorisation sorted today.
My xrays should still be on file at the hospital from when this first happened around 15 years ago, so that should be a help.
Carry on Mendy. At least you are up and somewhat mobile. Quick trip now to hospital to find out what is ailing ya and then you can take the appropriate course of care to get you back up and lifting bags of cement while your gardener watches.
Just...keep an open mind about those x-rays from 15 years ago.
Nonsense Tax. You made a back handed comment at Mendy's "Gaff" and got called on it. Quit your BS and man up. I got quite a few Repo comments that it was a cheap shot. They all can't be wrong.
That said, my place is just tidy and clean. Nothing more. Its not spotless, just organized and if you walk the back forty fruit tree area you better watch where you step as my dogs leave treasures and I only make a clean up run when I need to mow it. IMHO its all about upbringing. Growing up my parents always raised us that your place should be tidy and presentable for visitors at anytime (and we get quite a few unannounced here). Not the "Oh Shit, Someone's here". Then scramble and cram shit in corners and pick up laundry off the floor or hide the dirty dishes in the sink and god forbid piss all over the toilet and floor. If that's your idea of OCD, then you need to re read the definition. Its just about ones personal self respect. Mendy and I clearly live very different life styles. My wife has her kitchen area that she keeps extremely clean and very organized. She does it because she knows if you leave garbage out, flies come and then you get maggots and whatever else. If you leave dishes laying around the ants come. Its not OCD..Its just good hygiene.
I can understand the desire for some animal or other satisfying an owner’s anthropomorphic indulgence but why on earth does everyone up country and in the boonies have so many of the fuckers.
One of the many banes of having to stay there is putting up with the endless squabbling between different packs negotiating territorial limits, the cacophony of their stupid wailing and barking whenever something disturbs their nighttime vigils, their disgusting defecation spreading toxocara canis blinding children and my personal peeve, the stupid pack to be encountered whenever I go out for a dander around the village which on sensing my superior presence marking me out as totally alien to their local biped owners they follow me with evil intent and only break off when a thwack from my dog deterring club is delivered.
I shan’t bother with my usual gripes about idiot neighbours and the awful life threatening local fauna, can’t be arsed.
Mendy whenever this affliction revisits you, try to avoid any unnecessary movement or strain until you have had it investigated by the hospital. Self therapy involving physical movement of any kind is to be avoided at all costs. Intense back pain on movement after some exertion or other is nature’s way of saying you are fucked and to lie down and rest. Exercises and going for a flop around the pool is stupid.
Immediate recourse to hospital or a specialist is the way to go, even if you had to call an ambulance to get you there.
^^ I have to say that I didn't take offense to Tax's remark... I saw it at the time and smiled. I didn't take it literally.
But, I would like to point out that my place is clean and the kitchen is hygienic... or at least as hygienic as a 17 year-old kitchen in the tropics can be. But yeah, our place is untidy and neglected looking. Stumpy, I see your pictures and of course wish that my place was a bit more up together, however even if I had the time it would never be as tidy as yours because we are just different people.
But, there are two major differences between us which account for a lot... Firstly, time: I still work full-time and would normally be away around 5 months a year, and if it was allowed in this ridiculous country, when home I could be working 10 to 12 hour days, with weekends reserved for daughter stuff. That would leave no time for anything at all. Yeah, we have a 'gardener' of sorts, but the school runs alone take 3 hours out of his day (or mine, when available). Despite tongue in cheek comments, I am fairly happy with what he does and due to my work commitments we definitely need him. The wife just isn't interested in the garden or dogs and before the gardener, when I arrived home from a 6 week trip I would spend my entire leave just getting everything in the garden back to where it should have been, before departing to work offshore again... and again... and again. It started to become a major bane rather than a leisure activity as I was getting no break at all. Apart from his 'work', I also like to think that there is a competent male around when I'm overseas... this is Thailand after all. Oh, and he also looks after the dogs and chickens when I'm away... maybe that's an indulgence but my animals need care.
And secondly... this will not be my retirement home. Changes in personal circumstances over the years mean that I very much expect to leave Korat once the daughter flies the nest, and I am no longer prepared to sink money into a place I will be leaving. The house 17 years old, crumbling and in desperate need of maintenance and decoration, but these days I send to Thailand only what is necessary month to month, and not one Satang more... even more so the past few years with the dismally weak pound. Essential maintenance gets done but I'm not spending money to fix the place up. It's a shame because it could look really nice but it's in the wrong place and not somewhere I want to live forever... otherwise maybe people would be calling it Mendipingham Manor?

^^ Thanks for the advice SA... I am just sorting out pre-authorisation and will be off to hospital tomorrow with any luck.
And next time you are up this way, please come for a 'dander' around our pond. So long as you don't bring your dog deterring club you may be pleasantly surprised!
^ We've been burgled once many years ago but we only had two dogs at the time, and they were locked in the workshop.
At night I never use aircon as I like the windows open so I can hear what's going on outside. I find it reassurring to know the dogs will alert us to anything untoward and am tuned in to any noise they make away from the norm.
A mate living up your way was saying that one night he couldn't sleep, so went downstairs and had a brew outside on the veranda.
He reckons some young lad saw the farang because he went back in and up to bed. 15 minutes later he heard the Windows 10 starting sound. He immediately though Am I have asleep and dreaming this? He went downstairs fully bollock-o, and a young lad was standing there holding his laptop which had just booted. Laddo dropped it and legged it out the door, Old Matey went after him, but was completely bollock-o so left it.
Instead of just pinching the laptop and creeping back out, the dumbfok opened it up, then booted it while standing in the middle of the living room.
Presumably only interesting in it if was running Win XP.
Stumpy
This is teak door Stumpy in case you have lost your bearings in the haze of whiskey and red bull you exist in. If you are using comments from the demented loons who are addicted to repo in order to validate your opinions then you really are beyond hope and should organise an immediate return to the west.I got quite a few Repo comments that it was a cheap shot. They all can't be wrong.
I can see that Johnny Walker isn't a long term solution so have made an appointment at the Bangkok Hospital for tomorrow. Apparently it's the same back doctor I saw 15 years ago, but they don't still have the xrays. I thought a comparison would be good.
The wife's insisting on taking me... I wanted to drive in alone but sitting down is still painful and I don't reckon driving is a good idea, so I had to relent.
Absolutely agree Mendy and completely understand your position. While I work full time as well and still do spend more time on upkeep here. One thing about living here in the "Tropics" stuff that sit degrades extremely fast and over grows quite quick making as you noted Mendy a ton of work if you let it sit. So I commit time to keeping it up to avoid a bunch of work and expense later.
I appreciate you are just running your course until your daughter moves out and onward. At this point for me, I am waiting until my FIL moves to the next realm. At that point my wife and I are discussing options. So I want to keep the place up as it has appreciated quite a bit from what we have invested. As I posted in the other thread, Sicily is an option. My wife does have some interest in moving to the Napa California area. It's definitely a wait and see type deal.
I will retire next year once this current product is EOL. While they asked me to stay on for the next gen release, I want to untie myself from work and having to take my computer with me everywhere I travel. Be nice not to receive 50 to 80 emails a day and have to coordinate my trips around various conference calls.
Carry on and get well.
Sorry, but are you talking to me?
In fact I'm way ahead of you... I've lost 5 to 6kg in the last month since returning from the UK... cut right down on beer and mainly only have a drink at the weekends. I hope to get under 100kg by year end. With my powerful, athletic build I'll never be waif-like but it's already feeling good to shed some of the surplus.
I will ask about the cortisone, thanks.
I was also thinking about trying to get some other stuff hidden in the insurance claim... for a few weeks now I've been concerned that I tore an old inguinal hernia while cutting trees and dragging branches, and also I've been thinking about my prostate a lot lately. I was hoping to ask the doc to check them both out 'while he's down there' so to speak.
Trouble is, the wife tells me that 'Sittiporn' is a female name, which ties with my memory of this doc from years ago. Tbh, I'm not sure that I want the old finger test from a woman... but I guess not from a bloke either.
What's the least worse... having a woman or a bloke stick their finger up your bum?
