That little boat looks like a lot of fun. How about I turn up with a cold slab of Leo and come aboard.

It has. I saw the pics, watch the vid and couldn't help but laugh. While we would all like to believe we aren't laughing at Mendy, in the big picture we are. I think that Isaan has taken him over. He puts a child's boat in a koi pond.

"Fat guy in a little boat" still chuckling........

    What's next Mendy...... A submarine?

I think you meant a boatload of laughs...

Edit...I just showed this to my wife and she said it proves dogs are smarter than humans.

I'm looking forward to attempt 2. Thanks Mendy!

There's hush puppies that you can make by frying up the cornbread batter. They're pretty tasty too. I've heard of, but never seen, people using them for bait.

Any Brit will think of footwear at the mention of 'hush puppies'.

    It's a brand name.

Reminds me of chitty's steaks, too.

I somehow find that hard to believe, but it made the daughter laugh and the project will get her away from the screens so it's all good.

Oh, and no way am I more than 10kg overweight either.

Anyway, this thread seems to have gone way off topic with so much nastiness but I won't give up. I'm no quitter.

I'll make you Captain for a cold slab of Leo mate, Admiral if you include a bottle of Hong Thong. I'm adopting the RTP method of advancement.

But I'll warn you, there's some stiff opposition.

Sadly, due to HSE all training is now onshore until I sort out the boat stability issue.

Maya is still hot favourite to be my primary shipmate and she makes such a natural Captain. Born to the role.

AB Yogi can't resist a girl in uniform of course... well, he can't resist a girl full stop. What a dog he is!

    Maya knows...

I haven't yet ruled out Anna as skipper. She's comfortable onboard on land, but could she handle a fishing trip with the boat actually on the water?

Of course, she may be glad to escape the relentless advances from Tommy and Yogi?

Captain Anna seemed quite happy just to sit in the boat indefinitely, although I have a sneaking suspicion that she's just too heavy to disembark unaided.

She's more than capable of handling herself and had no problem barking an order at Seaman Max. She has natural authority.

One of the more beautiful Captains you're likely to see...

Yogi would be my first choice as shipmate but there are two major snags... 1) He won't let me pick him up to board the boat, and 2) He won't even wear the Captain's hat.

Even after all this time he can be an incredibly stubborn dog.

    Right.

So how tf did footwear get called after food?

    Weird.

I see one theory is that it was originally cooked by hunters for their dogs, which looking at it is believable.

^ The food came first. (I see you edited the question )

In the instance of hushpuppies, the tale goes that Confederate soldiers were preparing food around a campfire and heard Union soldiers in the vicinity, so they pitched their yelping dogs some fried cornmeal cakes and ordered them to “hush puppies.”

According to company lore, a sales manager traveling in the southeastern U.S. named the brand after a food popular in that region's cuisine: hush puppies, which are deep-fried balls of cornmeal batter.

Close...what I was told is that when a mom started cooking, the dogs would go crazy, knowing they would get the leftovers. To quiet the dogs, mom would take some batter and fry the mix for cornbread into balls to feed the dogs to quiet them...thus hush puppies..

    ^ That seems plausible.

For sure, to me this corn bread tastes like shit but all of my dogs seem to love it. And that includes Tommy and Coco who never usually go for cakey kind of stuff.

Mendip, your hero Lord Nelson is turning in his grave at your Seamanship.

A pontoon type of contraption may be too large for your pond.

Your capsizing video is a classic. LOL! 555!

Indeed, mendy is an embarrassment to the Royal Navy and all of its lineage. I have an idea mendy you should get a projector and have an outdoor movie night screening Master and Commander. That would make Lord Nelson proud.

I don't know about balls, but this cornbread stuff certainly has a magical effect on my dogs so maybe there is something to this 'hush puppy' mumbo jumbo.

Yogi sits for no man, food or not, and I really mean that. This was something else.

Coco and Anna have never sat... Anna joined us late but I don't know why Coco won't sit. Maybe I can address this at some point.

Of course I couldn't hold that obedience for long.

Coco first, as always. She's the timid one and then can run off with her prize and eat undisturbed and with no risk of theft.

But anyway, what's this got to do with the pond?

Tonight I caught this thing, no idea what it's called but it looked a bit like the UK's chub.

The daughter was with me, so I swore her to silence and back it went before her mother sensed another meal.

In fact the 'silence' cost me, the little bugger, but it was worth it.
